Chapter 21
The bullet pierced my arm-not a fatal wound, but the constant loss of blood made my body temperature drop rapidly, and my consciousness grew increasingly hazy.
Gu Haochen was somewhat moved by my selfless protection of him; evidence of this was that he tore his own clothes to try to bandage my wound and even let me lie on his lap.
I teased him, “If I die, will you miss me the way you miss Tangtang?”
For once, he showed a hint of panic.
After that, I lost consciousness, and when I opened my eyes again, I was lying in a hospital ward.
The spur-of-the-moment kidnapping ended in a flurry of chaos and embarrassment, which didn’t surprise me. I figured the driver and the bodyguard had already left this world without a sound.
Linghua sat by my bedside, eyes red as he glared at me, saying bitterly, “What are you doing taking a bullet? You think you’re so noble. I’m done playing with you people.”
After saying that, he lowered his head and shed two tears. “I’m just glad you’re okay.”
He left the ward without looking back. Not long after, Gu Haochen came in with a nurse.
Gu Haochen apologized to me, saying this incident would affect Linghua’s reputation, so it wouldn’t be handed over to the Public Security Bureau or dealt with publicly. He hoped I wouldn’t hold Linghua accountable.
He patiently observed my reaction, since after all, I was the only one injured in this dangerous farce.
I didn’t care.
I gave a faint smile and said gently, “I’m just glad you’re okay.”
Gu Haochen’s expression changed abruptly-hesitation, fear, gratitude, and a racing heart all flashed across his face in turn.
He had suffered repeated setbacks in front of me, but now, as if suddenly enlightened, it seemed the situation was back under control and he was on top again.
“You feel for me…”
I didn’t answer, just looked at him quietly.
He drew his own conclusion from my silence, unconsciously raising an eyebrow, the arrogant curve returning to his lips.
He bent down and took my hand. “After you get the inheritance, not getting divorced is fine too.”
