Chapter 18
Gu Haochen booked a ticket for Linghua to return to Country F. Linghua made a huge scene with Gu Haochen, but Gu Haochen didn’t budge.
The cousin’s sudden change in attitude made Linghua very uncomfortable. He was unwilling to accept it, but powerless to change anything, so he could only act as if he’d given in, insisting that Gu Haochen personally see him onto the plane.
Gu Haochen, wary of that Forty Million, insisted I ride with them to the airport that day.
The driver and bodyguard sat in the front, while Gu Haochen and I sat in the back, with Linghua, heavy-hearted, squeezed between us.
“Why does he have to come?” Linghua grumbled, curling his fingers and hooking one arm around Gu Haochen’s.
After being lectured by the old lady, he’d become much more restrained, no longer as arrogant and domineering as when he’d first arrived. But his habits remained; as long as Gu Haochen was nearby, he’d instinctively lean toward his cousin. Only now, the thin veil of their cousin relationship had been pierced by him, and all his physical contact seemed to carry ulterior motives.
Gu Haochen brushed Linghua’s hand off his arm. “He’s your sister-in-law, of course he can come.”
I neither agreed nor disagreed with the title of sister-in-law. Linghua, frustrated, slumped his shoulders and shrank into the back seat cushion.
Everything was still relatively calm at this point, until I noticed the buildings outside growing fewer and the trees more numerous-this wasn’t the road to the airport.
I stared at Gu Haochen in shock; he looked at me in confusion. Clearly, none of this was his doing.
Just as I was about to say something, the bodyguard in the front seat barked, “Don’t move.”
On either side, two guns were aimed at the heads of Gu Haochen and me.
