Chapter 15
After leaving the hospital room, Gu Haochen said to me coldly, “Don’t think everything will go your way.”
I nodded, not arguing back.
Linghua still wanted to tangle with Gu Haochen, but Gu Haochen was furious at the trouble he’d caused and left him behind, striding away.
Seeing Gu Haochen’s resolute back, Linghua finally shed tears.
I stood behind him, handing over a handkerchief at just the right moment.
Linghua saw my face, remembered how he’d lost control at the pool and confessed to Gu Haochen in a desperate attempt to prove himself, and angrily slapped the handkerchief to the ground.
“Don’t think you’ve won. Cousin and Tangtang have been together for four years. No one can take Tangtang’s place in cousin’s heart. He is cousin’s greatest love and the only one he’s ever loved.”
The feeling of anxiety grew stronger.
A swarm of insidious malice, like ants, silently crawled up from the edge of my ribs, densely covering my heart.
I chuckled lightly, “Then why haven’t they gotten married?”
Linghua was stunned.
Gu Haochen is twenty-seven this year, so age isn’t an issue; his parents passed away early, and there are no obstacles between him and Tangtang.
I added, “Four years-if they’d moved fast, their kid could be running errands by now. Gu Haochen loves him so much, so why haven’t they married?”
Linghua said nothing, seemingly lost in memories, his hands unconsciously clenching and relaxing, wanting to speak several times but ultimately not uttering a single word.
The moonlight was cold and clear, streaming through the hospital corridor window, spreading across the dusty floor, stretching two twisted, thin shadows, making the people beneath the moon seem chilly and distant, like a misprinted woodcut.
I said, “You’ve thought of it too, haven’t you? Gu Haochen loves Tangtang, but that doesn’t stop him from thinking Tangtang isn’t good enough for him.”
Gu Haochen looks down on Tangtang, and even Linghua looks down on Tangtang. That’s why Linghua is so indifferent, that’s why he can use Tangtang to deal with the newcomers around Gu Haochen.
Linghua gritted his teeth, clearly unwilling to accept it.
I exposed him: “If even the White Moonlight is treated like this, how much chance do you think you, basking in the reflected glow of the moonlight at his side, have of walking the road with him?”
