Chapter 14
The old lady was admitted to the hospital, but fortunately, nothing serious happened.
Gu Haochen and Linghua knelt by the bedside. The old lady, eyes red with tears, held my hand and kept saying how unfortunate our family was, and how I had suffered grievances.
Maybe it was because I had soaked in cold water, but my nose felt dry, and there was a strange restlessness in my chest.
Still, I smiled and replied, “It’s not really a grievance, isn’t there compensation?”
So the old lady ordered Gu Haochen to send Linghua away within two days, and to pay me Forty Million as an apology.
Gu Haochen was shocked; he didn’t even want to pay Twenty Million, let alone Forty Million.
“Grandma, this has nothing to do with me. It was Linghua who…”
The old lady interrupted him: “If you hadn’t been entangled with him, making him misunderstand, how would he still be clinging to you after your marriage? This mess is your fault, so you pay for Linghua’s share too!”
Gu Haochen clenched his teeth, suddenly glaring at me in anger.
I was truly wronged; I hadn’t done anything this time.
Linghua protested, “Grandma! Why do you insist on cousin marrying this person surnamed Du! Why can’t cousin and I inherit your estate together?”
The old lady was so angry she almost fainted: “You know he’s your cousin! You two are blood relatives!”
Linghua stubbornly said, “It doesn’t matter!”
The old lady picked up the water cup at hand and threw it toward Linghua: “Look at how useless you are! How am I supposed to face your Great-Grandmother in the future!”
Linghua dodged the cup, but was still frightened and started sobbing.
In the chaos, Gu Haochen suddenly regained his composure and calmly asked the old lady the crucial question: “Why him?”
The old lady paused, glanced at me, and then let out a long sigh. She began to tell Gu Haochen a story from the past.
It turned out that sixty years ago, the Gu Family had faced a crisis that nearly wiped out the entire clan. It was my Grandfather who pulled strings, ran around, and spent half of our family’s fortune to save the Gu Family. The old lady was grateful to my family and wanted to form a marriage alliance, but in the next generation, both sides only had Alphas, and the generation after that were all Alphas as well.
“My days are numbered, I just want to fulfill this wish of mine.” The old lady looked at Gu Haochen, “You can go after what you want, you don’t have to worry about this old woman. But as for the inheritance, I’ll donate it, accumulate some merit, and hope for a more comfortable next life.”
After hearing this, Linghua went to pull Gu Haochen: “Cousin, we don’t need this money. Tangtang wouldn’t want you to be with someone else either.”
Gu Haochen was full of struggle, kneeling on the ground without moving.
“Cousin!”
“Linghua, go. I can’t see you anymore.”
That’s right, that’s One Hundred Billion.
