Breaking Up Was a Choice I Planned All Along - Chapter 22
We agreed to meet at the school gate at eight o’clock on Saturday morning.
But when I left at seven forty-five, I saw him standing at the entrance of my dormitory building.
People were coming and going, and many were whispering as they looked at him.
He was completely unfazed, standing straight with a plastic bag in his hands, clasped in front of him.
How should I put it? He looked like a well-behaved elementary school student waiting for someone.
“You’re here.”
He saw me come out, took a couple of steps forward, and handed me the plastic bag.
“Breakfast.”
His tone was so natural that it made me feel like this was how things were supposed to be between us.
I took the plastic bag and opened it, exclaiming inwardly, wow!
Soy milk, fried dough sticks, sesame balls, buns, steamed dumplings, and even a Taiwanese rice ball.
I remarked on how stuffed it was, “This is… way too much!”
He frowned, scratching his head apologetically, “I didn’t know what you’d like, so I bought a bit of everything.”
…
I walked with him from the dormitory building to the school gate, passing by the elective course building, the administration building, the gymnasium, and the sports field.
“This is where we recharge our water and meal cards.”
“There’s a self-service bank from Industrial and Commercial Bank of China inside here, where we pay for exams and competition registration fees.”
“This row is where the student union and club duty rooms are.”
“This is our school’s bulletin board, where announcements for exams and school activities are posted.”
I stood in front of the bulletin board, pointing at a few posters, “For example, the Top Ten Singers competition organized by our department and the business networking event by the External Relations Department next door are posted here.”
“Your department organized it?” He bent down slightly, looking at the Top Ten Singers poster.
After all, I have feelings for the department. His question made me puff up with pride, “Of course. We planned the entire competition from start to finish.”
“For the finals, we’ll even invite renowned musicians from the city to be judges. The first-place winner will become the campus ambassador next year and shoot a promotional video for the school.”
I pointed at last year’s champion on the poster and raised an eyebrow at him, “See, so handsome!”
He stared at the poster for a long time, then turned to me expressionlessly, “Where’s the handsome part?”
I looked at the person on the poster, then at him, and started to walk away in small steps. I had no argument, but stubbornly insisted, “He sings well, that’s called personal charm.”
“I’m not the kind of shallow person who only looks at faces, okay?!”
I’m not, I shouldn’t be, right?!
He stood there for a while before catching up.
“Shen Pianpian, they say I sing well too.”
