Chapter 29
After the event ended, Xu Siyan offered to take me home.
I pointed to the car at the school gate.
Chen Xu was waiting by the car.
Xu Siyan’s gaze dimmed.
I got into the car and saw Xu Siyan turn and walk away.
I had seen his retreating figure countless times.
Yet it was the first time I had seen that figure so forlorn.
He always walked with his head held high and a confident stride.
Today, for some reason, his steps were so slow.
I watched him move forward step by step, like a turtle.
That figure faded into the distance in the evening breeze.
18-year-old Xu Siyan, in a white shirt, was vibrant in my youthful years.
28-year-old Xu Siyan finally shed that white shirt and walked out of my life.
The man beside me was already feeling quite displeased.
As he spoke, there was a hint of sarcasm:
“What does it feel like to win the lottery but have the ticket expire?”
I chuckled lightly:
“I’ve never won, so I wouldn’t know.”
“But you should wash your car, there’s a sour smell inside.”
He glanced at the rearview mirror:
“That G-Class behind us might have just been washed, want to switch cars?”
I silently took his hand, my fingers sliding between his, and laced them with his.
The evening breeze carried the scent of flowers in waves into the car.
He curved his lips and finally fell silent.
