Chapter 10
Upon waking from the alcohol, my head throbbed painfully.
There was still some hangover tea at home.
I had prepared it for Xu Siyan on regular days.
When he wasn’t on duty, he would meet friends and have a drink.
His alcohol tolerance was average, and sometimes when he drank too much, his friends would call me to pick him up.
Every time I brought him home, I would make him hangover tea.
Watching me busy around, he always looked a bit apologetic:
“I should just quit drinking, always troubling you.”
I said, “It’s okay, I don’t mind the trouble.”
Back then, I really thought about making hangover tea for him for a lifetime.
I got up and made a cup for myself.
On my phone lay a message from Xu Siyan.
Seeing his name made my heart tighten.
I stared blankly for a while before checking it.
It was sent at ten o’clock last night.
[You can take back the breakup words anytime, I don’t mind.]
[If you still insist, let me be the one to tell both sets of parents.]
He wanted to take all the responsibility onto himself.
Breaking off an engagement is a big deal, with countless issues following.
The hotel, honeymoon, wedding, wedding photos…
Not to mention the deposits going down the drain, facing the parents is the real tricky part.
I made the decision, so I had no reason to push him out to take the hit.
So I replied to him:
[I will tell them myself.]
[I’ll bear all the losses from our broken engagement.]
After a while, he replied:
[Shuyue, I don’t mind these things, you don’t have to do this.]
He was always gentle.
When we first got together, I felt his gentleness was like waves crashing on my heart.
Later, being in it, I realized those waves crashing on my heart were cold and hard.
