Bloody Wedding: Fatal Favoritism - Chapter 22
Fu Liuchuan placed my ashes in a cemetery on the outskirts of the city.
That night, he stood before my gravestone all night long, without saying a single word.
I pressed my ethereal face against his shoulder and murmured, “Are you still thinking of me, brother?”
There was no answer.
Only the wind whistling through the long corridor.
At first, I thought Jiang Yao’s death would cause some kind of uproar.
But a week later, when Fu Liuchuan met with Zhao Yan and his friends, and Jiang Yao’s name was mentioned, they looked at him blankly. “Who’s Jiang Yao?”
“Forget it, whoever she is. Chuan, you need to pull yourself together. Liuliu’s accidental drowning… no one could have expected it…”
Fu Liuchuan suddenly cut him off. “Accidental drowning?”
Zhao Yan nodded, confused. “Yeah.”
I understood immediately.
Jiang Yao’s mission to win him over had failed, and Fu Liuchuan had killed her.
So the world had corrected the story. Everything related to Jiang Yao had vanished into thin air.
Besides Fu Liuchuan and me, no one in the world knew the truth.
It’s better this way, brother. I don’t want to be a burden to you, even in death.
I boldly took hold of Fu Liuchuan’s sleeve and followed him into the car and back home.
Next to the study was a locked room.
When Jiang Yao had been here, she had asked what was inside.
At the time, Fu Liuchuan had paused and said dismissively, “Just some old things. I haven’t had time to sort through them, so I locked it up.”
Now, I finally saw what was inside.
It was filled with me.
My photographs, my paintings, my violin.
My old hair ties, the little formal dresses I used to wear, the school uniform skirt I had mysteriously lost.
The key fell to the floor with a soft clink.
Fu Liuchuan stood in the doorway, his long lashes lowered, hiding all the emotion in his eyes.
“I was just… so scared. Scared that you would find out what a terrible brother I was.”
“But even having you hate me would have been better than you just… dying.”
“When I woke up that morning, I just felt strange. Why were there two completely different memories in my head? And there was this strange, powerful force, pushing me to accept the second one.”
“But that was impossible. Because I knew, very clearly, that I was the kind of pervert who would only have those kinds of thoughts about his own sister.”
He collapsed to his knees in agony, clutching at his heart. “I’m sorry, Liuliu… Don’t be afraid of me.”
His eyes were red. He had been as sharp as a finely honed blade when he killed Jiang Yao on the yacht, but now he was like a lost little boy.
“Brother.”
The sharp pain in my chest returned with a vengeance.
Sunlight streamed through the glass, dust motes dancing in the air.
An invisible wind tore at my soul, and even my consciousness began to fade.
I suddenly realized.
I was about to disappear completely.
“I had so many dreams about you. Dreams where it was just the two of us, and I was a beast, doing so many terrible things to you. You were so beautiful when you cried.”
“You see, that’s the kind of wanton sister I am. My mother was right, I have a strange temper. No one could put up with me but you.”
“Who would love a child that even her own mother dislikes? Only you, brother.”
“So I don’t blame you. I just love you, and I have regrets. If I had lived, just a little longer, maybe one night when I was drunk, I would have lost control and just pounced on you.”
I floated lightly into his arms, wrapping my arms around him, and kissed him.
The hug and the kiss were as light as a soap bubble.
My brother, of course, couldn’t feel them.
Tears streamed down my face. I curved my lips into a smile and said, “I want you so badly, brother.”
“…Goodbye.”
My consciousness froze at that moment.
And faded into nothing.
