Chapter 9
I sat in the taxi, watching the night scene retreating outside the window, half-listening to my best friend’s words.
“Nannan, I’m starting to doubt love.”
“But that’s Jiang Du, the husband who spoils his wife like crazy! When you had a miscarriage and almost didn’t make it, I saw him writing a will, going mad, saying he couldn’t let you leave alone.”
“If even he, who loves you so much, can cheat, are there any good men left in this world?”
“However, Chen Yao turning the tables on him was quite satisfying; that scumbag deserved it.”
In the rearview mirror, Jiang Du hadn’t left yet, standing there with his back straight, seeming even more solitary than the night itself.
Everything that followed was straightforward. After the divorce, the company’s shares, the house, the car, and the savings all belonged to me, while Jiang Du left empty-handed.
“Isn’t it a bit too smooth…” Zhao Jing came to visit me with her daughter, a hint of concern crossing her features.
“So smooth it’s almost abnormal.”
I walked over with a fruit bowl, feeding her daughter Tuantuan a strawberry.
“Jiang Du has the entire Jiang Family behind him; these things mean nothing to him.”
“True. I almost forgot he’s the only son of the Jiang Family. Now that he’s divorced you, he should reconcile with his father.”
I patted Tuantuan’s head, “Perhaps.”
“Auntie, hug.”
Tuantuan reached out to hug my neck, accidentally knocking me to the ground.
Instinctively, I protected my lower abdomen.
Looking up, I met Zhao Jing’s astonished gaze.
“You…”
I poured Zhao Jing a glass of water, which she drank in one gulp, looking at my belly with uncertainty before speaking, “When did this happen?”
“Last month. I was planning to surprise him on our anniversary.”
But Chen Yao found me first.
Thinking back, the day he accompanied Chen Yao for a prenatal check-up, I was also at the hospital for mine.
Zhao Jing was silent for a long time, “What are you going to do… tell him?”
“If I wanted to tell him, I wouldn’t have asked the doctor to keep it confidential when I was hospitalized with a fever.”
I looked at her, “Jingjing, this is my child alone.”
