Chapter 10
The weather grew colder by the day, and on New Year’s Eve, the first snow of the season fell.
“He seems to have a new girlfriend again.”
A photo popped up on WeChat, sent by Chen Yao.
She had screenshotted Jiang Du’s latest Weibo post from a minute ago.
In the photo, Jiang Du was dressed in a perfectly tailored suit, looking handsome and gentlemanly, dining with a beautiful woman at the restaurant we often visited.
The caption read: “May the new year surpass the old.”
I was momentarily stunned.
Chen Yao sent two more messages: “It seems he loves neither of us; he loves only himself.”
“Perhaps we should both look forward, right?”
These days, Chen Yao often shared snippets of her life with me on WeChat, sometimes a song, sometimes a funny picture.
“They say this song helps with insomnia.”
“One failure is nothing; I’ve done similar market research before. You can ask me next time you bid. Don’t be upset, just look at this photo.”
Things like that.
I usually read them without replying.
She didn’t mind my indifference. Whenever she saw my posts about work or life on social media, she would message me immediately, offering advice.
She seemed to care about me, wanting to be friends.
Just then, my best friend leaned over, “Did she message you again?”
I nodded.
“If it weren’t for the fact that she was once pregnant with Jiang Du’s child, with all this attentiveness, I’d think she was interested in you.”
Calmly, I picked up a shrimp, dipped it in sauce, and placed it in my friend’s bowl, “She probably feels we’re in the same boat.”
Suddenly, my phone buzzed again; it was a message from my mom.
“I heard you got quite a bit of money from the divorce. Giving your brother tens of thousands for a house shouldn’t be a problem, right?”
