Chapter 4
The bathroom door opened, and Jiang Du was drying his damp hair with a towel, emphasizing seriously,
“It seems to have cooled down, Honey, don’t stay in the shower too long.”
The bathroom was filled with steam, and the mirror was foggy.
But I noticed that Jiang Du had deliberately adjusted the bathroom temperature higher.
He was always afraid I’d catch a cold.
Back when he was starting his business, I was pregnant, but the child was lost unexpectedly, leaving me with health issues. Even a small cold could be life-threatening.
For the past few years, Jiang Du has been helping me recuperate, even learning to make medicinal meals and give massages.
Every winter, he would warm the bed first before I got in.
He would carefully massage my acupoints, saying, “Su Nan, I hope you can be with me for a lifetime.”
Until cold water suddenly poured over me, the icy touch snapped me back to reality.
The water heater seemed to have broken, releasing cold water.
“Jiang–” I almost instinctively wanted to call his name.
“What’s wrong, my wife?” My voice was small, but Jiang Du still heard it.
“…Nothing.”
I clenched my fist and quickly turned off the water heater.
The bone-chilling water splashed onto the floor along my calves, the walls flickering with the warm light, making me dizzy.
In the middle of the night, I developed a high fever.
At three-thirty in the morning, Jiang Du drove me to the city hospital, and it wasn’t until the next morning that the fever subsided.
When I woke up, Jiang Du had gone to get me some hot water, and I received a message from Chen Yao.
“He took a day off today.”
A year ago, Jiang Du suddenly hired a personal secretary, Chen Yao.
Sometimes, when I brought the yam and pork rib soup I’d spent an afternoon making to his office, Chen Yao would stand nearby, smiling charmingly yet appropriately,
“Mr. Jiang has such a wonderful wife, no wonder he doesn’t even glance at the female colleagues in the company.”
Jiang Du frowned and told her to leave; I rarely saw him so cold towards someone, “Mind your own business.”
Chen Yao sent a few more messages,
“You deliberately got sick, deliberately ruined your health because of our bet? Do you think that way he’ll stay to take care of you?”
“You really are… naive.”
“So what if you’re sick, the person he loves now is me.”
“Today is my birthday.”
“He promised me long ago to spend it with me and the child in my belly.”
