Chapter 69
Chapter 69
Hua Qirou was startled and slammed on the brakes.
The piercing screech of the tires lasted for a long time, the sound so sharp it made her eardrums ache.
She had come within an inch of a collision.
Terrified, Hua Qirou slumped over the steering wheel, her heart pounding wildly against her ribs. She clutched her chest, gasping for breath.
Her fear and shock quickly curdled into a simmering rage.
Yet, the driver of the van didn’t make a sound, nor did they show their face. There wasn’t even a hint of an apology.
Hua Qirou was livid. She rolled down her window and screamed at the vehicle in front of her, “How the hell are you driving? Are you in such a rush to reincarnate? If you’re tired of living, just say so!”
The van remained silent; no one responded.
Hua Qirou was used to being pampered and flattered. How could she stomach such an insult?
Especially when the other party was driving a beat-up van. A nobody in a piece-of-junk van actually dared to ignore her!
It was outrageous!
Fury rushed to her head, clouding her judgment.
In the heat of her rage, she couldn’t maintain any sense of reason. Consumed by anger and unable to think clearly, Hua Qirou pushed open her car door, stepped out, and began pounding on the van’s door.
She hammered on the dilapidated metal, the noise echoing through the night.
“Get out here! Apologize to me! You’re going to give me an explanation tonight, or don’t blame me for being ruthless!”
Hardly had the words left her mouth when both doors of the van swung open simultaneously.
Before Hua Qirou could react, her vision went black as something was thrown over her head.
Immediately after, she was dragged into the shadows at the side of the road.
“Let go of me! Don’t touch me! Help!” Hua Qirou shrieked.
Thwack!
A fist slammed into her face.
Hua Qirou instantly saw stars from the pain.
The more she screamed, the more vicious the blows became.
A barrage of hits rained down on her head and body, and they even kicked her. By the end of it, Hua Qirou didn’t dare utter another sound.
She could tell that the thing covering her head was a man’s jacket; it reeked of cheap tobacco, alcohol, and heavy sweat. Judging by the voices, there were likely two men with thick accents, sounding to be in their twenties or thirties.
Her nose caught a foul stench, and she realized she was next to a roadside dumpster.
Her designer clothes were violently ripped from her body. Her waist was exposed to the chilly night breeze.
Hua Qirou was both humiliated and enraged.
When had she ever been so brutally violated next to a dumpster? Her rhinoplasty, her face that she regularly maintained with expensive skin boosters, her designer outfit worth over a hundred thousand, her jewelry worth millions, her meticulously pampered body…
She was such a noble woman.
Yet at this moment, none of it held any value. Like a plucked hen, she was pinned against a dumpster and ruthlessly trampled upon.
Her once-fragrant body was now limp, broken, and covered in filth.
The word “pathetic” would have to be multiplied ten thousand times to describe her current state.
It felt like an eternity before the two men finally let her go. They got back into the van and sped away.
Hua Qirou lay exhausted on the cold concrete, unable to get up for a long time. Every inch of her body ached with a bone-deep pain. She couldn’t even tell where she was injured specifically.
After a long recovery period, she pulled the jacket off her head and searched for her phone. She couldn’t find it; the two men must have made off with it.
The diamond ring on her finger, the luxury watch and bracelet on her wrist, and the diamond necklace and earrings around her neck-all had been stripped away. Her clothes were gone too, along with her car keys.
She looked up at the sky, her eyes brimming with tears she couldn’t shed.
By the time she was discovered, Hua Qirou was half-naked, slumped beside a trash can.
She looked exactly like a frozen chicken displayed in a supermarket freezer-her body a deathly, pale white, her eyes clouded with despair.
She was rushed to the hospital for an examination.
The results: one broken rib, internal tearing, numerous flesh wounds, and a mild concussion.
The doctor wanted to call the police, but she refused adamantly, fearing the humiliation.
Chu Yanru received the call and came to the hospital to see her. The moment he saw her pathetic state, his aged face darkened instantly.
His blood pressure began to skyrocket.
“Call the police! Catch those two bastards! I’ll skin them alive! I’ll tear them limb from limb!” he roared in a thunderous rage.
Hua Qirou wept uncontrollably, shaking her head repeatedly. “Forget it, just forget it. I can’t afford the humiliation. If we call the police, this will become a huge scandal. How will I ever show my face in public again?”
Before the incident, she had just been with Suo Ren.
She had suffered a difficult labor when giving birth to Chu Suosuo, which had damaged her uterus and left her infertile, so she never used contraception.
If she called the police, they would find Suo Ren’s DNA in her system.
Then her affair would be exposed!
Suo Ren had a family and was just an ordinary office worker. Although he held a minor official position, his financial resources couldn’t compare to Chu Yanru’s.
He was fine as a lover, but he fell short as a husband.
She was used to the life of a wealthy socialite; she didn’t want a divorce that would force her to endure hardship with him.
Since they couldn’t call the police and he had no way to vent his anger, a heavy weight settled in Chu Yanru’s chest. He was so furious his teeth ached.
He paced irritably around the hospital room before coming to a halt. “Who do you think did this?”
Hua Qirou, her eyes red and swollen, kept shaking her head. “I don’t know.”
Chu Yanru asked, “Was it Gu Beixian? He just came to the office to warn me, saying this would be the only time and there wouldn’t be a next.”
Hua Qirou covered her face and sobbed. “I really don’t know. Those two men stole my jewelry and my phone, so it was probably a robbery. I don’t know anything, waah… I don’t want to live anymore.”
Chu Yanru frowned anxiously. After considering it for a long time, he said, “It probably wasn’t him.”
Hua Qirou stopped crying and looked at him suspiciously. “Why do you say that?”
“If it were him, he wouldn’t have come to warn me beforehand. Wouldn’t that be as good as a confession? A man as shrewd as he is wouldn’t make such a low-level mistake.”
Hua Qirou’s frantic heart suddenly found a target.
If it wasn’t Gu Beixian’s doing, then it had to be Suo Ren’s wife.
Thinking of that wooden woman, Hua Qirou’s gaze turned sinister.
She swore to herself that if she didn’t get revenge for this, she didn’t deserve her name!
Meanwhile, at Riyue Bay.
Gu Beixian’s phone suddenly vibrated with a notification.
He picked up the phone, opened it, and gave it a cold, indifferent glance.
It was from his assistant: “President Gu, the matter has been handled. Clean and efficient.”
Gu Beixian’s eyes narrowed slightly, his expression cool. He replied with a simple: “Mm.”
With a light tap on the screen, he deleted the message and tossed the phone onto the nightstand.
He lay back down and gently pulled the sleeping Su Hua into his arms.
His gaze was as tender as water as he stared at her fair, delicate face.
His eyes slowly traced her chin, her lips, and her eyes.
Finally, he lowered his head and pressed a soft kiss to her smooth forehead, then another.
“Su Hua, I’ve avenged you,”
he said silently in his heart.
