After the Divorce, My Love Was Restarted - Chapter 7
The next day was Saturday, and I woke up rather late.
After washing up, I hesitated to leave my bedroom. I wasn’t quite sure how to face Wei Qingchen.
In the end, I gritted my teeth-what must be faced can’t be avoided forever.
When I opened the bedroom door, I found a note stuck to it: “There’s porridge and side dishes in the kitchen. Remember to eat.” At the end, there was a little smiling fox doodle.
It was Wei Qingchen’s handwriting.
For some reason, my heart fluttered a bit. What is this person up to?
Following the note, I headed to the kitchen. Sure enough, there was porridge and dishes kept warm in the pot, and another note nearby:
“After you finish eating, take the ginger syrup from the fridge, heat it up, and drink it. Your stomach will feel better.”
Opening the fridge, a large jug of prepared ginger syrup sat quietly inside.
As expected, there was another note on the jug: “After you finish the ginger syrup, quickly go check on the little fox on the sofa. If you make him wait too long, he’ll cry.”
There was even a pitiful little fox crying emoji at the end.
Little fox?
I started to feel a little anticipation.
Although this trick of linking one note to the next isn’t exactly new, it took a lot of thought to prepare all this so early in the morning.
I turned to the sofa, and sure enough, saw a big Nick Wilde plushie sitting there lazily lifting its eyelids at me, a letter clutched in its paws.
That cheeky look inexplicably reminded me of Wei Qingchen.
In the letter, he said he was going on a business trip out of town for a week. During this week, I should carefully consider whether to accept him. If I did, he’d immediately rush back and cook me a huge seafood feast; if not, that was fine too-he’d just shamelessly persist until I agreed.
He even said that if I was worried about the company not allowing colleagues to date, he’d resign.
Honestly, I was a bit surprised reading this.
I’ve seen how seriously he takes his job. Is he really willing to quit for me now?
I closed the letter, and the scales in my heart tipped a little more toward Wei Qingchen.
But I still couldn’t quite understand-why does he like me?
I had just finished breakfast when I received a call from Tang’s mother.
She said she knew about my divorce from Tang Chao and asked if, for the sake of our years as mother- and daughter-in-law, I could visit her in the hospital.
So I went.
When I arrived at her hospital room, Bai Xiaoxia was there too, holding a bouquet of flowers.
She was just as she was back then; the years hadn’t left many marks on her face. Her almond-shaped eyes were round and endearing, but now with an added air of maturity.
When Tang’s mother saw me arrive, she turned to Bai Xiaoxia and said, “Miss Bai, you can go now. I’d like to chat with Yimiao for a while.”
Her tone was polite yet distant.
Bai Xiaoxia looked a little stunned, and after hearing Tang’s mother’s next words, her face fell even more: “Also, Miss Bai, there’s no need for you to come again. Please take the flowers with you as well-I’m allergic.”
I didn’t understand.
Hadn’t Tang’s mother always liked Bai Xiaoxia?
Bai Xiaoxia forced a smile at me as a greeting, then left with the flowers after hearing Tang’s mother.
Tang’s mother took my hand and put on a kindly face.
“Yimiao,” Tang’s mother sighed, “I misunderstood you before. Back then, I thought Bai Xiaoxia was just accompanying her mother abroad for medical treatment and would come back. Who would have thought… there was another man who went with her…”
I knew about this. Back then, Bai Xiaoxia went abroad with that man, but Tang Chao and his mother kept it from her, only saying she was accompanying her mother for treatment and would return.
Even though Bai Xiaoxia had clearly left with another man, Tang Chao still didn’t want to tarnish Bai Xiaoxia’s image in his mother’s eyes.
Maybe he was hoping that one day Bai Xiaoxia would return.
He really could plan ahead-this time, Bai Xiaoxia really did come back.
“So, you thought I took advantage of the situation and ruined Tang Chao and Bai Xiaoxia’s relationship, and that’s why you never liked me, right?” My voice was calm, with not even a ripple of grievance in my heart.
“I, I…” Tang’s mother was at a loss for words, and in the end only let out a sigh.
“It’s all in the past,” I said calmly. “Those things don’t trouble me anymore.”
“Yimiao,” Tang’s mother gripped my hand, her voice suddenly choked with emotion, “Is it really impossible for you and Ah Chao to get back together?”
“It’s impossible,” I said after a moment’s thought, speaking honestly. “There’s too much between us. I’ve always tried to keep up with him but never could. It’s too exhausting. Now, I want to care for myself for once…”
“Yimiao,” Tang’s mother raised her hand to wipe away her tears, “If you have time, could you go see him? He’s changed so much, he barely eats, he really knows he was wrong now…”
Could seeing him change the bitterness of the past?
No, it couldn’t.
I didn’t know how to refuse Tang’s mother, so I changed the subject in the end.
