After the Divorce, My Love Was Restarted - Chapter 8
A week later, I still hadn’t heard back from Wei Qingchen. He mentioned on WeChat that his business trip was extended. Returning to the neighborhood after working late, I saw from afar that my home was in darkness, and I couldn’t hide a tinge of disappointment. It felt like I was back to those nights spent alone.
As I reached downstairs, I unexpectedly saw Tang Chao leaning against his car. The dark-colored car, suit, and shoes exuded an aura of elegance and nobility, even in the night. Yet, my heart no longer fluttered for him as it once did.
He had his head down, with only the bright red glow of a cigarette between his fingers. He looked up, fixing his gaze on me. In the darkness, I couldn’t discern his expression, but I heard his hoarse voice, “I’ve finally waited for you.”
“Come here…” His commanding tone surprisingly carried a hint of vulnerability, as if pleading. I wondered if I had misheard. I didn’t move.
He tossed away the cigarette and strode towards me, grabbing my hand. The motion was so swift that I didn’t even have time to react and pull away. By the time I came to my senses and tried to free myself, he had already pulled me into his embrace, holding me tightly.
His warm breath tickled my ear, making it itch, “Wife, let’s have a child, please…” The smell of alcohol was strong; he was drunk. No wonder, he was usually so aloof. I rarely saw him drink, let alone in such a state.
But now, he was softly pleading by my ear, “Wife, give me a child, let’s go home…” He repeated incoherently, over and over. I remained silent, trying to push his arms away, which only provoked a stronger reaction from him.
Suddenly, kisses rained down on me, on my lips, earlobes, neck, accompanied by heavy breathing, like a long-repressed release. “Wife, I miss you so much…” he murmured involuntarily between kisses.
Yet, at that moment, I couldn’t help but recall the image of him and Bai Xiaoxia, kissing passionately on a summer night street. I abruptly pushed him away, causing him to stagger a few steps unguardedly.
“Sorry.” His hoarse voice came a few seconds later, and he seemed much more sober. “Come home with me, please?” His reddened eyes looked at me, filled with a deep affection that could drown someone.
“No. Don’t waste your efforts anymore, it’s meaningless.” My voice was soft. But he understood, I was resolute, as I had never been so heartless to him before.
He suddenly chuckled, and when he spoke again, his tone was filled with bitterness, “I deserve it, for realizing too late. But, subconsciously, I never thought of divorcing you, never. Not even when Bai Xiaoxia came back…
“With you around, I’ve always felt at ease. I thought you’d always be by my side, but I was busy dwelling in the past, neglecting your feelings…”
He seemed unable to continue. I looked up at him, and under the distant light, I saw a bright glint on his cheek-it was a tear.
He covered his face with his hands, and a minute later, he looked up again, “Chen Yimiao, I’ll wait for you, as long as you’re not married.”
With that, he left a sentence, “I’ve been drinking, I’ll come back for the car later.” Then, he disappeared into the chilly night.
Two weeks later, Wei Qingchen still hadn’t returned, but explosive news spread through the company-
Wei Qingchen wasn’t just some nephew of the group’s boss; he was the boss’s son, the future heir of the group. He was soon to be engaged to the daughter of another major conglomerate.
I felt a chill spread through my limbs, sitting dazed at my desk, unable to react for a long time.
