Chapter 7
The next day, I was awakened by the persistent alarm on my phone, and my pillow was soaked with tears.
Fu Shen hadn’t come back all night.
I told myself in my heart that this was the last time I would cry for him.
I got up, went to the bathroom for a quick wash, and prepared to go to work.
Even though I had decided to resign, I had a clinic appointment today and medical reports to write, so I couldn’t take a day off.
This is the world of adults; no matter how sad you are, you can’t forget your work.
Before going to work, I called a lawyer friend to consult about divorce matters.
There were no melodramatic entanglements or complaints.
Nor did I need some lovesick second male lead to suddenly appear and save me, to slap Fu Shen in the face.
My life has never been just about Fu Shen.
I have my own path.
Divorce is the only conclusion I can think of for the two of us.
In the morning, after submitting my resignation letter, I went to work.
There was so much work that the busyness allowed me to temporarily forget about Fu Shen.
But unexpectedly, before I could go to Fu Shen, he came to the hospital himself.
At that time, I was about to take some documents to the ward to find a patient’s family when I saw a familiar figure not far away.
It was Fu Shen, and he was tightly holding the hand of Shen Xinyue, whose face was streaked with tears.
The two of them were anxiously running towards the cardiology department.
The ward they headed to was exactly where I was going.
It turned out that Shen Xinyue’s mother was ill.
Seeing her mother’s haggard face, Shen Xinyue cried so hard by the bedside that she couldn’t stand up.
Fu Shen gently patted her, comforting her tenderly.
Shen’s mother expressed that she had no regrets in this life, only worried that if she left, her daughter would suffer alone in the world with no one to care for her.
I couldn’t help but raise an eyebrow because the patient I was looking for was Shen Xinyue’s mother.
In my impression, her illness wasn’t that severe.
Upon hearing this, Shen Xinyue immediately told her mother that she had a boyfriend, so she shouldn’t worry.
When Shen’s mother asked who it was, Shen Xinyue turned to Fu Shen with a pleading look.
Fu Shen then wrapped his arm around Shen Xinyue’s waist, his expression natural.
“Auntie, I am Yueyue’s boyfriend. Please rest assured and focus on your recovery. I will take care of Yueyue for you.”
After saying this, he gave Shen Xinyue a doting glance.
Shen’s mother still didn’t believe it and insisted that they kiss in front of her before she would agree to treatment.
This time, Fu Shen looked troubled and couldn’t help but glance around.
Shen Xinyue tugged at his sleeve, her face full of pleading.
In the end, Fu Shen couldn’t refuse and leaned down to kiss her.
