Chapter 2
Fu Shen’s words chilled me to the bone, as if I had fallen into an ice cellar.
I recalled how he had repeatedly rejected me these past days.
So it wasn’t that he was truly tired, but rather that he found me “disgusting”?
This realization pierced my heart like a needle, leaving me breathless with pain.
He knows full well how precious ten years of a woman’s youth are.
Yet he uses it as a bargaining chip to hurt me.
The name Shen Xinyue rings a bell.
She was a new intern hired by Fu Shen’s company.
I still remember the undisguised admiration in his eyes when he first mentioned her.
He told me that Shen Xinyue had lost to other competitors during the interview.
But this girl was not one to give up; she kept pleading with the interviewers for another chance, nearly breaking down in tears.
Such perseverance is rare among young people these days.
In the end, Fu Shen took pity on her and, against the odds, dismissed more qualified candidates to hire her.
When I heard this, I couldn’t help but frown:
“Isn’t this emotional blackmail?”
“Interviews should be judged based on ability, not on who seems more pitiable. This is unfair to other candidates.”
Fu Shen uncharacteristically gave me a dark look: “How did you become such a cold-hearted doctor? Have I protected you too well before?”
I didn’t doubt myself because of his criticism and continued to argue with him.
Because of this, we had a cold war for an entire night.
It was only after Fu Shen humbled himself to coax me that we reconciled.
But I never forgot that name.
I didn’t expect that she would now become Fu Shen’s personal secretary.
It was from that time that Fu Shen stopped sharing things about the company with me.
Everyone has the desire to share; if they’re not sharing with you, they’re sharing with someone else.
It turns out, all changes leave traces.
