After I Was Gone, Mr. Song Said He Loved Me - Chapter 7 - My First Business Deal
I knew it was inevitable. After all, how could I not work after taking so much money from him?
Even though Song Yu and I had that kind of relationship, I understood it was merely a transactional exchange. The extra 500,000 yuan in my WeChat account was proof enough.
Song Yu was making it clear that I needed to know my place.
Sure, he was handsome and wealthy, but I couldn’t help but scoff at his overconfidence. Not everyone is swayed by money.
Besides, I wasn’t taking his money for nothing.
With a mix of emotions, I deliberately waited until the phone was about to stop ringing before answering, “President Song.”
He responded with a low hum, “How’s your recovery?”
The little bit of pride I had built up crumbled instantly at his question, and I felt my face heat up.
“Uh… it’s okay,” I replied, trying to sound composed, even coughing to cover my nervousness.
“Good. Get ready tonight. I’ll send someone to pick you up.”
Hearing the word “ready,” I knew Song Yu was likely taking me out for some business dinner.
“Alright… beep-”
I was left staring at the phone, the word “okay” still hanging on my lips when Song Yu hung up.
Tsk, all business.
Just then, the doorbell rang. I looked up, wondering who it could be since I hadn’t ordered any room service.
I shuffled to the door and opened it to find a man in a suit holding two large boxes, with several men’s suits draped over his arm.
“Who are you looking for?” I asked.
“Hello, Mr. Bai. I’m Luo Yewen, President Song’s assistant,” the man smiled warmly, then glanced at the items he was holding.
“Oh, please come in,” I quickly stepped aside.
Luo Yewen nodded politely and walked into the room, placing the items on the coffee table.
These seemed to be my attire for tonight’s event. I had to admit, Song Yu was quite considerate.
“Mr. Bai, these are custom-made clothes and shoes according to your measurements. Tonight is a private dinner, so just dress appropriately. President Song doesn’t like anything too flashy.”
“I’ll pick you up at six. Keep your phone on to avoid being late,” Luo Yewen instructed, sounding almost like a lecture, which irked me. We both worked for Song Yu; was there a need to be so overbearing?
No wonder they say like boss, like subordinate.
“Got it,” I replied coolly, standing by the door as if to see him out.
Luo Yewen didn’t say anything more, but as he was about to leave, he suddenly paused in front of me.
“Is there something else?” I asked.
“President Song is hosting a boss from the north tonight who can handle strong baijiu1. You might want to have some LiKe beforehand.”
[Note: LiKe is a health drink with mild anti-alcohol effects.]
I hadn’t expected him to say that, and my impression of him improved instantly.
But I was confident in my drinking ability; I didn’t need LiKe at all.
“Thank you, I’ll keep that in mind.”
Luo Yewen gave me a look and left the room.
I closed the door and, despite the lingering soreness, walked over to the coffee table to inspect the clothes and shoes.
Wow, they really were tailored to my size-XL clothes, size 40 shoes, and all from top brands.
I picked up a Chanel haute couture casual suit and held it up in front of the full-length mirror in the living room. The reflection showed a young, handsome man.
A small, delicate face, eyes like shimmering peach blossoms, a high, straight nose, and lips that were just the right thickness. When closed, the lips formed a slight pout, and with a touch of light-colored lip gloss, they looked like juicy cherries, tempting anyone to take a bite.
Ah, another day of being dazzled by my own good looks.
…
Considering Luo Yewen’s advice, I didn’t go overboard with my grooming like I used to at Royal Dynasty. I simply used some hair wax to create a layered look, then chose a white casual blazer from the pile of designer clothes, paired it with a light pink embossed shirt, and wore my own light blue jeans and white casual shoes. The overall look was stylish yet understated.
Once I was ready, I waited in the hotel lobby for Luo Yewen’s call. Sure enough, at six o’clock, my phone rang right on time.
I straightened my clothes and headed for the revolving door. Outside, a sleek black Rolls-Royce was parked, and without hesitation, I got in.
It was the same car Song Yu and I had left Royal Dynasty in that night.
The car drove to a private farmhouse on the outskirts of Hai City. The large fenced yard was home to chickens, ducks, geese, and even a pig, but it was well-kept and free of any unpleasant odors.
I had expected a gathering of big shots to be at least in a Michelin-starred restaurant, with soothing music and fine wine. Never in my wildest dreams did I imagine it would be a farmhouse!
Is this the kind of fun rich people have?
Seeing me hesitate outside the yard, Luo Yewen urged, “Mr. Bai, we should go in.”
I snapped out of my daze and followed Luo Yewen towards the large tiled house in the yard. The door was open, and I could hear the faint sound of men talking.
Luo Yewen led me to one of the rooms and knocked, “President Song, I’ve brought him.”
The conversation inside stopped abruptly, followed by a low “come in.”
Even though I had been in similar situations countless times, I suddenly felt nervous, my heart pounding erratically.
Luo Yewen opened the door, revealing six or seven men sitting around a round table. For a moment, I felt like a mouse exposed to the sun, subjected to their various gazes.
Some were amused, some scrutinizing, others indifferent…
But my eyes could only helplessly search for Song Yu.
“Come here,” Song Yu spoke.
I felt a wave of relief and hurried over to him. Just as I was about to sit in the empty seat beside him, Song Yu pulled the chair back, moving it away.
I froze.
“Sit next to President Wu,” Song Yu pointed to an empty seat a chair away.
Following his direction, I saw a man in his fifties smiling at me.
My heart sank, but I quickly composed myself and obediently sat down.
Just as I settled in, there was another knock on the door, “President Wu, I brought the contract.” Despite the door, the voice was warm and pleasant.
“Come in,” the man beside me responded casually, his eyes still fixed on my profile.
Creak-
The door opened, and a man in a business suit walked in with a folder. Suddenly, there was a clatter as the teacup in front of Song Yu toppled over, spilling light yellow tea across the table…
