Chapter 6
This time, the people Jay had to kill were still cultivators.
But their level was clearly higher than before.
To do it flawlessly, without anyone noticing, required much more time and planning.
Every time he killed someone, he would take something from them, or obtain a piece of information.
Then he would hurry on to the next place.
Once, after restraining someone, he turned to me and asked:
“Do you want to do it yourself, for the thrill?”
I shook my head quickly:
“No, no.”
“There are good ghosts and evil ghosts. I’ve never killed or harmed anyone.”
Jay stared at me for a long time.
Then, with a few swift sword strikes, he severed the tendons in the man’s hands and feet, making his death even more agonizing.
A month later, Jay brought me into a secluded valley, cut off from the world.
There was a small pavilion in the valley, likely one of his cultivation sanctuaries.
I found it strange. “Aren’t you going to kill anymore?”
Jay looked at me through the Nine Revolutions Soul Stabilizing Pearl at his fingertips:
“Not for now. I’ve gathered everything I need. There’s something more important to do.”
That night, he entered the secret chamber.
For forty-nine days and nights, until I was so bored I was about to start chasing butterflies for fun,
Jay finally emerged.
The Soul Stabilizing Pearl was as if reborn, radiating brilliant light.
“Did you succeed?” I asked him.
“You know what I was doing?”
I shook my head. “No, but you’re not someone who wastes time.”
