A True Heroine Needs No Man - Chapter 12
Shang Luzhou stared directly at Su Wanyin.
Lin Lailei shielded her, her voice trembling but defiant.
“Don’t look at her.”
I walked back to Lin Lailei’s side and took her hand.
“Su Wanyin, do you want me to take you away from here?”
“The money you owe… I can help you with it.”
Although her grandmother had passed away, her medical treatments had left a debt of over a million yuan.
Shang Luzhou had used this to force Su Wanyin, a recent graduate with no options, to sign an agreement.
He would pay her debt, and in return, she would be his woman, available at his beck and call.
The penalty for breaking the contract was in the tens of millions.
An amount she could never hope to repay.
But that agreement wasn’t legally binding. It was an invalid contract.
Su Wanyin looked tempted. She clutched my jacket tighter.
“Last chance. Get over here, now.”
Shang Luzhou’s violent roar made her flinch.
“I… I’m scared,” she choked out, tears streaming down her face again.
I held onto Lin Lailei’s hand and took two steps toward the door.
Su Wanyin looked up at me, her eyes pleading.
It was a common trait among the fragile, “white flower” female leads: weakness, indecision, fear.
I had to force her to make a choice.
“I’m asking you one last time. Are you coming with me?”
“You won’t get another chance like this. I can’t be here to save you every time.”
“Right now, you have the right to choose to leave with me. To fight for one’s rights is a duty one owes to oneself. So, what is your choice?”
Both Shang Luzhou and I were watching her.
Su Wanyin bit her lip, unconsciously wrapping the jacket tighter around herself in her anxiety.
Her fingers brushed against the fabric of the blazer. The feeling of this piece of clothing that wasn’t hers seemed to snap her out of her stupor.
As if making a final decision, she closed her eyes and rushed towards me.
“I choose.”
I pulled her behind me and smiled at Shang Luzhou.
“Sorry, I’m taking her with me.”
I was betting on the fact that he wouldn’t dare do anything to me.
And he didn’t.
I couldn’t help but give myself a mental round of applause.
As expected, I, Shen Fu, was born to change the world.
