A Strange Transmigration Novel - Chapter 2
Chapter 2
The next day, I acted as if nothing had happened and went upstairs to bring Shi Xu his coffee.
After setting the tray down, I was about to head out.
He took a sip of his coffee, hesitated for a moment, and called out to me, “Do you want to be my Follower?”
I was stunned. “Follower?”
He explained, “In our circle, we don’t use the term ‘girlfriend.’ There are only Followers.”
“So, are you currently without a Follower?”
Shi Xu replied, “You can’t really put it that way.”
“Then you want me to be your Follower?”
“You can’t use the word like that either…”
I didn’t get it.
Was the word “mistress” too much of a tongue-burner for him?
He set down his coffee and stood up.
The light streaming through the window fell across his face, making his features look clean and elegant.
“What I mean is, I’ll give you five hundred thousand a month to move into my house. Are you willing?”
I touched my face.
So, I was worth that much?
I asked, “Does being a Follower require me to do anything specific?”
Shi Xu pondered for a moment. “It’s still the work of a secretary, just in a different location. You’ll keep posting on your Moments as usual, and you can’t block me.”
“What about my social security and housing fund?”
Shi Xu: “…I’ll still pay those for you.”
I agreed.
After all, he was offering way too much.
Leaving the office, I felt like something was fishy.
While a colleague was slacking off in the pantry, I asked her, “Do I look like someone?”
My colleague stared at me for a long time before saying I looked a bit like the CEO’s White Moonlight.
She didn’t want to get back to work anyway, so she started gossiping with me.
Shi Xu’s White Moonlight was studying engineering in Germany, and her graduation was nowhere in sight.
She didn’t answer calls or reply to messages, and she posted crazy things on her Moments every day.
[Studying abroad for further development. Which country? The Kingdom of Heaven.]
[Why can everyone else give birth, but This Palace cannot?]
Her mental state was remarkably similar to mine.
Case closed. I was definitely here to be a body double.
I tried to find the System in my head again.
But that psychiatrist I saw really did have a healing touch.
Now, my mind was a complete blank.
Left with no choice, I spent the night cramming several “body double” webnovels.
Usually, the body double is weak, pitiful, and helpless, only to be discarded once the White Moonlight returns.
I figured I was more sensible than that; I could just run away on my own.
That afternoon, I moved into Shi Xu’s luxury flat.
I was back at my post, ready to welcome this overwhelming wealth.
Shi Xu was a classic overbearing CEO.
He didn’t like being disturbed, so he lived alone without a housekeeper.
His meals were sporadic; he was bound to develop a stomach ailment sooner or later.
After being hungry at home for half a day, I finally accepted one thing.
A CEO’s Follower has to be self-reliant.
I ordered groceries through a delivery app and then started swinging the spatula.
By the time Shi Xu returned, I had prepared a full table of food.
The lights in the house were all on.
Everything looked like a picture of domestic bliss.
Shi Xu smiled; he looked very happy.
But he celebrated too early.
He sat down, took a bite, and wore an expression that was hard to decipher.
“Has anyone ever told you that your cooking is delicious?”
I shook my head a bit shyly. “No. Why?”
He said, “Then why are you still cooking?”
Hard.
My fist clenched hard.
But after hearing the notification sound of a bank transfer, I relaxed my fist again.
Who would hold a grudge against money?
