Chapter 6
Chapter 6
I hopped on a bus and rushed toward the hotel.
After getting off, I spotted a stylish black sedan parked at the hotel entrance from a distance.
A few people, men and women dressed in fashionable clothes, walked out of the guesthouse dragging suitcases.
The man leading them was quite tall, wearing a white shirt and jeans. He wore sunglasses, which only added to his dashing and handsome appearance.
I recognized him at a glance-Lu Junrong!
At that moment, Lu Junrong shook hands with a middle-aged man and turned to get into the car.
“Director!”
I shouted in a panic and sprinted toward them.
In my haste, I wasn’t looking where I was going and collided with a tricycle hauling swill.
The moment I fell, the sticky, foul-smelling slop drenched me from head to toe.
Ignoring the pain, I scrambled up and limped toward the man. “Director Lu, please wait!”
Lu Junrong pressed his index finger to his nose, took a few steps back, and asked with a frown, “Who are you?”
I didn’t dare get too close. I hurriedly said, “Have you forgotten? You saw me on the street before and said I had a good look. You told me to come here on the 22nd for an interview.”
Lu Junrong took off his sunglasses.
He had a handsome, mixed-race face. He sized me up and let out a sudden laugh, saying in somewhat clunky Mandarin, “I remember now. There was such a thing.”
Joy flared in my heart, and I was just about to step forward.
Unexpectedly, Lu Junrong suddenly said, “But our appointment was for the 21st. So, Miss, you missed it. I absolutely loathe people who aren’t punctual. It shows a lack of character. You may leave.”
I froze.
Nearly thirty years had passed. I remembered the interview with the director from Gangcheng, but I truly didn’t recall the specific date.
This was my only chance to turn my life around. I couldn’t give up.
I took a step forward and grabbed Lu Junrong’s arm, crying out in desperation, “I’m sorry, Director. Something terrible happened at home, so I…”
Lu Junrong shook me off in disgust. “Leave immediately, or I’ll call security.”
I simply dropped to my knees, kowtowing repeatedly. “I beg of you, please give me one more chance.”
Clearly, no one had expected me to be so humble.
Lu Junrong remained unmoved, saying coldly, “Doing this is useless.”
“I might as well tell you, the role I’m casting is for a local girl from West City. She plays the piano and is bright and innocent. While your physical appearance is close, there is no light in your eyes. They are very repressed, like the eyes of a woman who has lived for decades and has no hope left. You aren’t right for it.”
“Don’t waste any more of our time. You can leave.”
I was stunned.
I was actually shocked. As expected of a famous director, his observation was incredibly keen.
At that moment, a chubby girl standing beside Lu Junrong leaned in and whispered to him in Cantonese, “Ah Ron, don’t you think her mannerisms and expression are a bit like the female lead, Song Zhen?”
Lu Junrong frowned. “Are you crazy? I haven’t even been satisfied with the Best Actresses who interviewed for Song Zhen. What is she?”
The chubby girl shrugged. “Sorry, I was just saying. The final decision is in your hands.”
Lu Junrong put his glasses back on and walked right past me to leave.
All the strength seemed to drain from my body, and I slumped onto the ground.
It was true. Even with a rebirth, the goddess of luck wouldn’t favor me.
Suddenly, Lu Junrong stopped in his tracks. He turned back and looked at me for a long time. “Let her try out for Song Zhen.”
