Chapter 10
I spent the whole night trying to figure out what Pei Su meant.
What does it mean when a man tells a woman who climbs into his bed in the middle of the night, “Spare me”?
After thinking it over and over, I decided to find someone to talk to.
My injuries had pretty much healed – in fact, there wasn’t much of an injury to begin with.
Pei Su, as usual, left before dawn. I informed the Steward and then left the residence myself.
When it comes to matters between men and women, Tianxiang Pavilion is always the place to go.
However, before I even reached the entrance, a hand suddenly shot out from the alley and yanked me aside.
I looked closely – it was Long Shuang, the female Shadow Guard from the Second Prince’s residence.
“Are you crazy? What are you doing going to a place like that?”
I replied proudly, “I’m on a mission.”
Her eyes widened. “A mission? Your master would let you go to a place like that for a mission? Wouldn’t he break your legs?”
The mission was confidential, so I didn’t want to explain further. I waved my hand nonchalantly. “Ah, times are different now.”
She looked at me with a strange sympathy in her eyes.
“I see.”
There aren’t many female Shadow Guards in our circle. During those years of training, we were quite good friends.
Afterwards, we hardly saw each other.
It’s not that I didn’t want to see her – it was her master who wouldn’t allow it.
The Second Prince, Long Shuang’s master, is not a good person. He’s cold, violent, and unpredictable, never treating people as people.
Because of a leg ailment, the Second Prince never participates in royal hunts or other outings.
Unlike my own master, who’s all bark and no bite, her master really beats her.
Whenever he’s unhappy, whipping her is routine.
He not only vents all his desires on her, but when he’s tired of her, he sends her to someone else’s bed, back and forth like that.
It’s honestly remarkable that Long Shuang has survived until now.
After a moment, she patted my shoulder heavily, her expression grave.
“Is there anything I can help you with?”
I figured as long as I didn’t mention the target, it wouldn’t hurt to talk about it.
So I asked her, “I want to seduce someone, but when I climbed into his bed at midnight, he told me, ‘Spare me.’ What does that mean?”
Long Shuang’s gaze became even more sympathetic.
She looked like she was about to cry.
“Sui Sui… you, sigh.”
I became even more confused. “So what does it mean, exactly?”
She looked resigned.
“What else could it mean? He’s saying your skill isn’t up to par.”
“My skills are pretty good…”
“Not that kind of skill…”
She motioned for me to lean in, then whispered a detailed explanation in my ear.
I listened in silence for a long time, then let out a long sigh.
Being a Shadow Guard really isn’t easy.
