Chapter 1
After returning from the Mid-Autumn banquet, the Third Prince threw all the memorials in his study onto the floor.
I was hit squarely on the head, yet still knelt in perfect form.
I knew that His Highness’s anger was not directed at me, but at that sinister and cunning advisor of the Crown Princess.
I heard that at the Mid-Autumn banquet, Pei Su once again infuriated His Highness.
Pei Su was eloquent and glib; the Third Prince could not outargue him and could only come back to vent his rage.
“Can’t this Pei Su just go die on his own?!”
I replied, “I’m afraid not.”
His Highness looked at me quietly.
“Yu Sui, do you want to die?”
I declined politely, “I don’t eat shit.”
The Third Prince pinched the bridge of his nose, looking very troubled.
“Get out.”
Men are truly fickle.
I said, “Oh, your subordinate takes his leave.”
I am a Shadow Guard.
Because I am hard of hearing, I often misinterpret His Highness’s orders.
His Highness often scolds me for this.
But scolding is useless.
Once, His Highness called me a pig, but I misheard and thought he told me to go out and buy mushrooms.
That day, I went to the market, carefully selected, and proudly carried back a bag of the finest mushrooms.
His Highness was so angry that he had the kitchen prepare mushrooms for several days straight, forcing me to eat them all.
The kitchen’s skills were quite good, so I ate happily.
Seeing me so pleased, His Highness threw out the entire bag of mushrooms.
What a pity.
My master, the Third Prince, has a terrible temper; if he’s not scolding someone, he’s preparing to scold someone.
Fortunately, his looks make up for it.
He has an exceptionally beautiful face, said to be inherited from his charming and enchanting Imperial Consort Mother.
This kind of charm isn’t aggressive in the worldly sense; it’s more like a pampered house cat, even its swipes are irresistibly cute.
His eyes are round, and even when he’s angry, he hisses like a kitten. So whenever I’m being scolded, I get distracted, just staring at his face, not hearing a word of his tirade.
His Highness is completely unaware of this, and always thinks he’s very dignified.
In reality, he and the word “dignity” have nothing in common.
After all, he can cry for half the night over a single fall.
