When I Stopped Acting Spoiled, My Arranged Husband Fell Apart - Chapter 7
Chapter 7
Forget it.
Whether I could divorce him, what would happen to me afterward—let it all go to hell.
Zhuo Zhishu was the one who had made me like this. If I cracked his skull open today, he would have brought it upon himself.
Who told him to devise such a self-satisfied little scheme?
Yet after I snapped at him, his eyes somehow looked clearer.
“What do you mean, two hearts?”
“Stop pretending. I already know what you planned. But let me be clear: I want a divorce. I will never accept you having someone else.”
“What someone else?”
Zhuo Zhishu’s acting had improved. The confusion in his eyes looked almost convincing.
I had no desire to keep playing along, so I said nothing.
He panicked.
“Say something, honey! What someone else? You can’t invent an affair just so you can divorce me! I’m extremely faithful!”
“Zhuo Zhishu, if you didn’t want me to find out, you should have hidden it better. Meet her in secret if you must, but don’t send her gifts to your office, and don’t come home covered in her scratches. Understood?”
I laid everything bare.
Zhuo Zhishu froze.
Then he began to wail.
“You misunderstood! Honey, I didn’t cheat! There’s no one but you!”
He fumbled with his phone, unlocked it, and pulled up a video from one of his chats.
It showed the stray kitten we had rescued that day.
The little thing looked much healthier and far less savage than when we first found it. Tiny and soft, it let out a delicate mew.
I stared, not understanding.
Zhuo Zhishu thrust the phone into my hands, speaking so fast he seemed determined to cram ten words into every second.
“I was only raising the kitten! Look, look!
“You wanted to keep it, but it was too wild. I was going to train it first, then when our agreement expired, I’d use the kitten as leverage to beg you not to divorce me.
“I didn’t want you to find out because it scratched me. And the package at the office was a cat bed!”
I swiped back through the videos.
They documented everything: the kitten’s injuries healing bit by bit, its temper softening day by day.
There was even footage of how the scratches had appeared on his arm.
He had been holding up his phone to secretly film the sleeping kitten when it woke without warning and swiped him.
The man’s startled cry cut off the video. The abrupt ending had a certain deadpan humor to it.
“It was seriously vicious. I even signed up for an online course on how to train cats. Those people kept calling to ask how my lessons were going…”
Zhuo Zhishu rambled on and on.
So the conversation I heard at the restaurant really had been about the kitten.
Not me.
I kept scrolling, but accidentally backed out of the video and landed in his group chat.
The screen was filled with Zhuo Zhishu’s despair.
[Who the hell changed my wife’s key bindings???]
[Why doesn’t my wife make me come home anymore? Why doesn’t she demand updates, order me around, or lose her temper at me? Why doesn’t she want jewelry or bags when I offer to buy them?]
[My perfectly troublesome wife was fine! Why is she suddenly behaving?!]
[God damn it, why did my wife suddenly go all meek again? Does she not love me anymore, so she doesn’t care what I do? Is she looking for a new husband?]
[Now the men after her are going to line up all the way to France!!!]
[Help! Why is my wife so popular?! Our agreement hasn’t even expired, and that damned childhood friend is already back and waiting!]
[Emergency! That old man congratulated my wife. Was he congratulating her on getting divorced? Has she changed back because she wants to be with him again?!]
[Someone get in here and tell me what to do!]
[@Lin Xiao You’re the one who told me to use an agreement to lure her in while the old man was abroad. Now the agreement is expiring and she doesn’t want me. Where’s my after-sales support?!]
[Otherwise I’m leaving you a negative-five-star review! Terrible review!]
Lin Xiao: […You’re going to make your phone freeze.]
Zhuo Zhishu:
[Speaking of phones, my wife just bought me the newest Fruit Pro Max, white, one terabyte. It doesn’t freeze at all.]
[Oh, right, you don’t have a wife. You should buy a new phone yourself. List the old one on the resale app…]
Lin Xiao: […You need help.]
I didn’t know whether to laugh or cry.
The real Zhuo Zhishu suddenly swept me into his arms, startling me.
“What are you doing?”
“I’m taking you to see the kitten! I need to prove my innocence!”
“It’s very late.”
“I won’t sleep a wink!”
“…”
