Vows in Vain, Ten Years, One Betrayal - Chapter 10
Zhou Xuyan stood by the window in the corridor, a cigarette dangling from his lips.
Outside, the night was pitch black, and the hour had grown late.
Lin Bihan had always been in poor health, her routines strictly disciplined.
At this time of night, she should already be asleep.
When Tao Yuan emerged from the examination room, her eyes red, Zhou Xuyan had already stubbed out his cigarette.
He glanced at her and asked coldly, “What did the results say?”
“A bit of light bleeding. The doctor suggested I stay in bed and rest as much as possible this month.”
“Then don’t go to school to teach for now. Stay home and rest.”
“Honey… will you stay with me?”
Tao Yuan clung to his arm, her voice full of grievance.
Zhou Xuyan frowned and pulled his arm away. “Haven’t I told you before? Stop calling me that.”
“I only call you that when no one’s around…”
“Enough. I’ll have the driver take you home.”
“You’re not staying with me? I feel really unwell today. I’m scared the bleeding will get worse…”
“The doctor gave you medication, didn’t they? Take it and rest properly.”
Zhou Xuyan headed straight for the elevator. “I’m not a doctor. Staying there won’t do any good.”
Tao Yuan bit her lip, trying to hold back tears.
But afraid of annoying Zhou Xuyan, she could only suppress her emotions and follow him into the elevator.
“Zhou Xuyan…”
As she was about to get into the car, Tao Yuan couldn’t hold back any longer and turned to call out to him.
Zhou Xuyan glanced at his watch, his impatience evident. “What now?”
“Will you come tomorrow?”
“The doctor said no sex this month.”
Zhou Xuyan raised an eyebrow. “Coming to see you would be pointless.”
“I need to spend this month with my wife. You’d better behave yourself.”
Tao Yuan was both furious and aggrieved, tears streaming down her face.
Out of consideration for her pregnancy, Zhou Xuyan did offer a few words of comfort.
“Take care of yourself. I’ll come by when I have time.”
Tao Yuan watched as he got into the car and left without looking back.
The tears on her face turned cold and stiff, her jaw aching from clenching her teeth.
She couldn’t understand. She was young and beautiful-how could she possibly lose to that sickly wife of his?
Every time she thought of this, hatred consumed her.
And yet, she couldn’t let go of Zhou Xuyan, nor the life he provided her.
So she could only endure it, no matter how much it hurt.
