Chapter 6
A few months later, I gave birth to a baby girl.
I named her An’an.
I hope she will live a peaceful and smooth life, and enjoy longevity.
An’an was sensible from a young age.
During my postpartum confinement, I developed mastitis and had to wean her early. She was obedient, neither crying nor fussing.
When she was two, she had a fever for several consecutive days.
As I secretly cried in the middle of the night, she wiped away my tears and softly said, “Mommy, don’t cry, don’t cry…”
Many times, I silently rejoiced that I chose to keep her back then.
Since my mother left, I hadn’t felt this happy in a long time.
The days of raising a child were busy, yet they passed quickly.
In the blink of an eye, An’an was three and a half years old.
I thought for a long time and decided to take her back to China.
She really couldn’t get used to the food abroad.
Living abroad always felt like lacking a sense of belonging.
Although I worried about possibly encountering Li Zemu.
What if he discovered An’an’s existence and wanted to fight for custody?
But then again, he should have already married Shen Sirong by now, right?
Perhaps they even have children.
As for me, a fleeting passerby, he must have long forgotten.
Besides, Jing City is so big, the places they frequent are ones I would never go to, so we probably wouldn’t run into each other.
With that thought, I brought An’an back to Jing City, which I hadn’t seen for a long time.
I bought a nice second-hand school district apartment.
The previous owner’s decor was very cozy, and we could move in with just our luggage.
I also rented a flower shop near the neighborhood.
This way, I could take care of An’an while having something to do myself.
This weekend, I received a last-minute order.
The customer chose the most expensive bouquet in the shop and asked for quick delivery.
After waiting for a long time, no delivery person accepted the order.
Helplessly, I decided to deliver it myself.
The address was in the city’s most upscale villa area, quite far from my flower shop.
After finally arriving, I rang the doorbell for a long time, but no one answered.
Just as I was about to call, the door opened.
Li Zemu appeared unexpectedly in front of me.
Four years had passed; he was thinner but more mature and stern.
“Who are you looking for?”
He had his hands in his pockets, looking impatient.
“Hello, your flowers.”
I quickly handed him the gift box.
Fortunately, it was windy today, and I wore a mask.
Compared to when we were together, when I wore makeup daily, now I was bare-faced.
I figured he wouldn’t recognize me.
Sure enough, he glanced at me briefly, took the box expressionlessly, and then closed the door.
I breathed a sigh of relief and turned to leave.
Suddenly, he called out to me.
“Wait a minute.”
