Chapter 15
In the fourth year after graduation, Male Seven’s Research Institute successfully extracted a previously unrecorded active cell from Tangtang. Experiments proved that this cell could accelerate metabolism and repair.
Unfortunately, the cell would die soon after leaving Tangtang, and they were searching for a way to keep it alive long-term.
She brought me back a recording from the International Academic Symposium. In the video, Bai Tangtang spoke as a representative researcher.
“For more than ten years, I have been troubled by my own body. It wasn’t until I was 26 that I truly began to know and understand myself. And besides me, there are many women in this world who are ashamed to explore themselves. Our Research Institute recruited many volunteers: some had two pairs of accessory breasts, some had uterine prolapse, some had continuous bleeding-yet before this, no one paid attention to their conditions.
“I hope that in the future, more and more people will learn, spread, and promote knowledge about women. From the elderly who know how to clean their bodies, to little girls with pigtails who know the correct order for wiping after using the toilet. I hope sanitary pads can be placed at the checkout counter alongside family planning products. I hope adolescent girls don’t have to hunch their backs because they develop early. I hope all surrogacy ads disappear from toilets. I hope flowers know how to bloom, flourish, and then grow old. And she doesn’t even have to be a flower-she can be a tree, a bird, a tiger, a person-I hope every woman can become a person.”
Bai Tangtang turned off the video and hugged me with a smile: “Mom, have you thought of an ending for that story yet?”
I wiped away my tears, my lips trembling: “The protagonist led the dairy cows and the Min out of the prison. They climbed walls, boulders, and cliffs, crossed mountain after mountain, and finally discovered where humans lived. The leading woman told them, ‘Your name is Woman.’ The women settled and lived there, but the protagonist chose to go back.”
Bai Tangtang asked in surprise, “Go back for what?”
“To save the Min on the Throne,” I said. “When the protagonist returned, she found that the Min had already been driven off the Throne. The Min waved their daggers and said: ‘Cut off your ears so you can’t tell lies. Dig out your eyes so you can’t see the truth. Sew up your lips so you can’t speak. Lock your neck, give you a child, and you’ll be our new Dairy Cow.’
“The protagonist rescued her and brought her back to the settlement. Seeing so many women, she was shocked and went mad. The protagonist told her: ‘This is how it should be. Your chest is not a symbol of wisdom, your voice is not heavenly. You are just an ordinary human woman.'”
Tangtang’s eyes filled with tears: “Is it enough to just be an ordinary woman?”
“Of course.”
Unknowingly, my body began to fade away as if erased by an eraser, the website was unblocked, and it was finally time to leave.
“When the protagonist went back to save her, it was in hopes that she could become an ordinary human woman.”
“Maybe she can be a little more special,” Bai Tangtang said, her face streaked with tears, forcing a smile, “Like learning some skills, Sanda or something.”
“Well, besides Sanda, Muay Thai, Combat Fighting, Debate, Logic…” I laughed and told her, “The more skills, the better. Learn whatever you can.”
She couldn’t hold back anymore, and suddenly threw herself at me, crying: “Mom!”
But she missed.
I couldn’t help but cry too: “You’ve called me Mom for most of your life, but now you’re so grown up, and I’m actually two years younger than you!”
Bai Tangtang didn’t listen at all. Just like when she was bullied by bad boys as a child, she cried out loudly: “Mom, Mom!”
…I really lost to her.
When I first came here, I didn’t have much feeling for Bai Tangtang. I even thought with amusement: Wow, no wonder she’s the Female Lead, she was so cute as a child.
But when she rolled into my arms crying like a sticky rice ball, sobbing about a boy kissing her, I suddenly became furious.
That anger supported me, with a nearly foolish persistence, to raise Tangtang for almost twenty years.
Tangtang hasn’t cried in a long time…
I couldn’t help but answer: “-Hey!”
