Chapter 18
For an entire week, I was practically immersed in the company.
During this time, Julian Thorne called me numerous times, but I hung up on him every time.
He sent messages as well, which I didn’t bother to read. I replied coldly:
“You’ve already reviewed the divorce agreement beforehand. I’ve had the lawyer send you the final version. If there’s no issue, just sign it.”
The five-nation trade cooperation contract, which used to be one of the Thorne Group’s key projects, was successfully negotiated.
Leveraging the collaboration between Julian Thorne and the Sterling Family, I gradually extracted the intelligence and core technology.
Then, bypassing the Thorne Group, I directly contacted the person in charge on the other side.
While I was busy in the office, Grace suddenly rushed in and knocked on the door:
“Ms. Sterling, your father and Mr. Thorne from the Thorne Group have come to the company, insisting on seeing you!”
I paused in my actions and looked up.
“Invite them to the meeting room.”
I said as I got up and headed towards the door.
Before opening it, I turned back and instructed,
“And call the police, saying someone is causing trouble at the company.”
As I entered the meeting room, I was greeted by a powerful slap from my father.
It made my face turn to the side, my ears buzzed, and a metallic taste filled my mouth.
“Ridiculous!”
He pointed at my nose and shouted,
“Have you forgotten your identity? Who gave you the audacity to acquire Sterling Group shares and misappropriate funds–”
“Dad, it seems you’ve misunderstood something.”
I interrupted him, raising my eyebrows slightly,
“After three equity transfers, there is no Sterling Group anymore.”
“If I wish, I could rename it at any time, or even merge it directly into my company.”
The Sterling Family’s company failed to transform, its market value kept shrinking, and clients followed suit.
After my father’s first wife passed away, he took over the company.
But he was accustomed to living off others and couldn’t manage it himself.
After I married Julian Thorne, for the convenience of collaboration, my father arranged for me to join Sterling Group.
A very minor position, requiring a lot of work.
Yet, it held no real power.
But that didn’t matter.
What I wanted was never just the Sterling Group, a company long past its prime.
“Victoria.”
Julian Thorne asked me in a deep voice from the side,
“When did you start planning all of this?”
I pretended to think seriously for a moment: “Probably… since the night I went to find you four years ago.”
“Acquiring Sterling Group shares, snatching projects from me, and making other investments… where did you get so much funding?”
“You studied finance, don’t you know what leverage trading is?”
He suddenly stood up, glaring at me with a grim expression: “Such high risk, and you dare to gamble?”
“Why wouldn’t I? My life has always been a gamble.”
I curled my lips into a smile, slowly,
“Besides, the fact that you’re standing here proves that I won the bet.”
