To My Old Lover - Chapter 9
Chapter 9
As the security guards rushed forward, Lu Chenzhou stepped up to the edge of the stage first.
He didn’t climb onto the stage.
He simply looked at the men.
“Who dares touch her?”
Four words.
Colder than they had been on the day of the engagement banquet.
The guards froze.
Song Qiming’s expression finally shifted.
“Chenzhou, do you know what you’re doing?”
Lu Chenzhou didn’t even look at him.
“I’ve never been more sober.”
I gripped the microphone tighter.
“Four years ago, I didn’t break up with Lu Chenzhou because I was some gold-digger who favored the rich and despised the poor.”
“It was because someone used the scheduling of my brother’s surgery to force me to leave.”
A massive stir broke out among the audience.
I continued.
“Yesterday, my brother’s medical consultation was blocked again. Today, I was required to stand here and admit to harassing Mr. Lu.”
“I don’t know if there is a connection between these two events.”
“But I reserve all rights to pursue legal action.”
Song Qiming snapped sharply, “Wen Qiao, you need evidence for such claims!”
I looked at him.
“What’s the rush, Mr. Song?”
The big screen suddenly lit up.
Song Mingzhu was standing by the control console, a remote in her hand.
The first document appeared on the screen.
It was the record of Song Qiming’s secretary sending me the backstage address and the apology script.
The second was a timeline showing the temporary withdrawal of the hospital consultation.
The third was an old email from four years ago regarding the change in Wen Ning’s surgery schedule.
The CC list on that email included the Lu family butler, the head of the hospital…
And Song Qiming’s assistant.
The entire venue erupted.
Lu Chenzhou looked up at that old email.
His gaze looked as if it had been torn apart by something.
I didn’t look at him.
Because the real blade had yet to fall.
Song Mingzhu picked up another microphone.
“Everyone, since today is the Lu-Song Cooperation Press Conference, I also have some materials I’d like everyone to see.”
Song Qiming roared, “Mingzhu!”
She didn’t stop.
The screen switched.
Overseas financing.
Project collections.
Abnormal transfers.
The flow of assets after the car accident involving Lu Chenzhou’s father.
Every single document was enough to drive the media present into a frenzy.
Song Mingzhu’s voice was cold and indifferent.
“I have already synchronized these materials with my lawyers.”
“As for whether my father is involved in other illegal activities, that will be for the relevant authorities to investigate.”
Song Qiming’s face turned ashen.
“Have you lost your mind?”
Song Mingzhu looked at him.
“You’re the one who taught me.”
“In the face of profit, family ties are worthless.”
The press conference spiraled completely out of control.
Reporters swarmed with questions.
Shareholders whispered among themselves.
People from the Song family rushed forward, trying to turn off the screen.
Lu Chenzhou finally stepped onto the stage and walked to my side.
He took the microphone from my hand.
The room quieted down slightly.
He looked into the cameras.
“The Lu-Song engagement is canceled.”
An uproar ensued.
He continued.
“Four years ago, I failed to protect Wen Qiao.”
“At the engagement banquet, I was also the one who allowed her to be humiliated.”
“From today onward, the Lu family will cooperate with the investigation into all related matters.”
He paused.
His voice was incredibly hoarse.
“As for Wen Qiao.”
He looked at me.
In that look, there was a pain that was four years overdue.
There was also a surrender that was four years overdue.
“She is not the one harassing me.”
“I am the one who has never been worthy of seeing her.”
