Chapter 18
Project proposal presentation.
That long-missed face, almost demonically intelligent, cold and dazzling, caught all my movements in his eyes.
No wonder it’s so hard for me to start the next chapter.
Once you’ve tasted the best, you can’t settle for less.
“Daisy, Daisy?”
The manager called my name.
Only then did I realize my report was over.
Flustered, I apologized and hurried back to my seat.
Others continued presenting their parts.
Our department was seated in a row.
Yan Chen sat directly across from me.
His gaze was icy, and he smiled at me with an ambiguous air.
I quietly lowered my head.
My phone vibrated.
I was puzzled-when did Yan Chen add my new contact?
I opened it to look.
Yan Chen: “Baby, can I come to your place later?”
As I read the message, someone hooked my calf with their foot.
My whole body tensed up.
What is going on?
I racked my brain, trying to recall what happened in the car last night.
Gong Beibei said there was a man crying.
Could he really have done something in the car?
He hooked my leg again. Having long legs is truly something.
There was quite a distance between us.
The moment our eyes met.
I nudged his leg with my heel, signaling him to behave.
He rolled his Adam’s apple, as if ignited.
The tremor in his eyes visibly spread, his noble profile curving into a smile.
Like a Maine Coon cat stroked by its owner, overwhelmed with pleasure and satisfaction.
“Baby, step on me again.”
I stared at the message on my phone, feeling desperate.
No matter how hard I tried, I couldn’t remember what on earth I’d done last night.
How did things develop to this point?
“Baby, can I go to your place?”
A wave of applause surged.
The manager up front said, “Let’s welcome the new president of Shengshi Group, Young Master Yan, to say a few words?”
He shook his head lightly.
His gaze swept over my collarbone.
He clapped along with the crowd, “No, I have urgent matters.”
The meeting ended.
I followed the crowd out.
Suddenly, a force pulled me back.
“Take my car, it’s spacious.”
Huh?
“What do you mean?”
He picked me up and put me in the car, closing the door.
A flurry of urgent kisses landed on my lips.
He only kissed, dragonfly-light, not biting.
Much gentler than when he was eighteen.
“To Yushui Bay.”
He instructed the driver.
That was in the direction of my home.
But I couldn’t say a word-his hand gripped my waist, kissing me hungrily.
Soon.
The car stopped.
I had bought a floor with only one unit per elevator.
Entering the elevator, he lifted me up, his palms broad and strong, one hand pressing heavily against my waist.
Like a beast that never tires of feeding.
My phone rang urgently.
I pushed him away hard and answered.
“Hello, Gong.”
He instantly became obedient, letting me down and retreating to the corner.
Gong Beibei shouted on the other end, “Holy shit! President Yan is so gorgeous, so hot! Model face, model body! If I take him as my standard for a partner, I’m doomed for life…”
After calming her down,
I turned to Yan Chen. “What are we?”
He softly uttered two words.
“Lovers.”
Ha, I looked down. He wore a ring on his fourth finger.
He’s married, but still wants something illicit, so he wants me as a lover.
I stared at him steadily.
“Then go home.”
“W-why?”
He sounded aggrieved, his eyes quickly filling with moisture.
“There aren’t that many reasons. Lover? Even a dog wouldn’t want that.”
I pressed the elevator down button.
“Then what if I’m the dog?”
Delicate brows like mountains, a fairy’s face.
Even the way he looked at a dog was affectionate.
He wanted me to be the dog.
Now that I have money, I’ll never be anyone’s lapdog again.
I said, “No.”
“But-”
The elevator door opened. He grabbed my hand, his voice getting more and more pitiful.
“Really won’t try? When you said you liked me before, was that a lie?”
I looked up at him. “Yes, for money.”
“You always scolded me, bullied me. How could I ever like you?”
I pressed the elevator door shut.
He stretched out his hand, blocking it.
He rushed to explain, “I’m sorry.”
“My parents treated me this way, so I never felt anything. That’s why I always treated others like this, too. I know now it was wrong…”
“Baby, can I come see you tomorrow?”
I said, “No.”
“The day after tomorrow?”
“Still no.”
“Oh.”
He lowered his head, desolate.
Muttering to himself, “Can’t even be a dog, ever again?”
Gong Beibei messaged she was almost here.
He was still struggling, “I really miss you, I’ll get treatment, I can explain-”
He stopped mid-sentence, biting his lip in silence.
I looked at him, as if seeing my own past.
I’d been persistent too, had fantasies too.
But we’ve all grown up.
He looked like a porcelain doll that had been bullied, words stuck in his throat.
I felt a twinge of pity.
“Then, explain.”
He just withdrew his hand, looking at me obediently.
Restored to that noble and beautiful appearance.
He smiled faintly.
“It doesn’t matter anymore.”
“You too-be happy with him…”
He walked away quickly, his spine like a tree trunk, angular and pitiful.
Not long after.
Gong Beibei ran over as if fleeing for her life.
“Damn, daddy, the parking lot is haunted. I heard some really tragic crying, sounded like someone died horribly…”
We went upstairs.
