Summary
When Xie Zhixue’s brother flees an imperial marriage, she disguises herself as him and goes to wed her childhood friend. Under the bridal veil, however, she finds the friend’s formidable elder brother, Young General Pei Wenqing, playing the bride. Exposing either substitution could doom both families, so the mismatched pair drink their wedding wine and become husband and wife for real. Between swapped identities, scandalous rumors, disaster relief, palace intrigue, and two runaway siblings, Zhixue discovers that the feared God of Slaughter has planned for her far longer than she imagined – and he has no intention of letting his clever, irreverent bride escape.
