The Streamer's Allure: Top Fans Vying for Her Affection - Chapter 116
Chapter 116
After Jiang Zhouzhou finished washing up, she began rummaging through her drawers and closet.
Layer after layer of clothes ended up tossed across the bed. Every piece seemed nice enough, yet none of them felt quite right.
Seeing that it was almost ten o’clock, she looked at herself in the mirror, then at the pile of clothes on the bed, and for a moment, she felt at a loss.
It was clearly just an ordinary meeting, yet she seemed far too nervous.
In the end, she picked out a ladylike white dress. Her long hair was casually pinned up, with a few strands falling over one side of her chest.
After putting on some simple, light makeup, Jiang Zhouzhou took a car to the restaurant they had agreed on.
The scenery outside the car window streamed backward. As she drew closer and closer to her destination, Jiang Zhouzhou’s anxious heart actually began to settle.
When she arrived at the restaurant entrance, Jiang Zhouzhou got out of the car.
She took her phone from her bag and sent Brother Cockroach a message.
Jiang Zhouzhou: “I’m here.”
Brother Cockroach: “I just arrived too.”
Brother Cockroach: “I see you. Stay where you are. I’ll come find you.”
Seeing Brother Cockroach’s reply, Jiang Zhouzhou froze in place.
She stood there and looked around, searching for Brother Cockroach, only to see a short, chubby man walking toward her.
Jiang Zhouzhou’s heart lurched uncontrollably. Was he Brother Cockroach?
The man looked about five-foot-three and weighed around 176 pounds. Because of the hot weather, his black T-shirt was soaked with sweat, the sticky fabric clinging to his body.
As he drew closer, Jiang Zhouzhou caught the faint stench of sweat coming off him.
But thinking that he might be Brother Cockroach, Jiang Zhouzhou kept a faint smile on her face and did not show the slightest hint of anything unusual.
She was not someone who judged people by their appearance. No matter what Brother Cockroach looked like, to her, he was still her benefactor.
The man walked up to Jiang Zhouzhou. His slit-like eyes sized her up with a blatant, greasy gaze.
“Heh heh, hello there, beautiful. Standing here all alone must be so boring. How about we make friends?”
Jiang Zhouzhou was startled by his sudden move and hurriedly took a step back.
She had made a mistake. He… he wasn’t Brother Cockroach!
“Sorry, I’m waiting for someone,” Jiang Zhouzhou politely refused.
Unexpectedly, the man refused to let it go. His face darkened as he said, “What are you pretending for? You were smiling so slutty at me just now. Weren’t you trying to seduce me…?”
As he spoke, the man’s voice suddenly cut off.
A cold voice sounded from behind Jiang Zhouzhou. “What she means is, get lost. Do you not understand human speech?”
Hearing the man’s voice, Jiang Zhouzhou quickly turned around.
“Cock… Cock…”
The words stuck in her throat, too difficult to say.
Looking at the tall man before her, with his refined, scholarly appearance, she truly could not bring herself to say the words “Brother Cockroach.”
The short, fat man was the typical sort who bullied the weak and feared the strong. Seeing a man taller and stronger than himself, he immediately wilted.
He shrank his neck and left. Only after he had gotten far away did he dare to curse under his breath.
Now, only Jiang Zhouzhou and Yin Yue remained, and the atmosphere unknowingly became subtle.
“Did he scare you?” Yin Yue was the first to break the silence.
Jiang Zhouzhou sniffled and said in a muffled voice, “I thought just now that he was you…”
Yin Yue paused, then smiled helplessly. “So that’s what I look like in your heart.”
Seeing that he seemed to have misunderstood something, Jiang Zhouzhou quickly explained, “No, it’s just that when I saw him walking toward me, I thought he was you.”
Who would have thought it would turn into a misunderstanding-and that she would nearly get harassed on top of that!
Seeing her reddened eyes from the fright, Yin Yue’s heart instantly softened.
“My fault. If I’d gotten here a few minutes earlier, you wouldn’t have had to go through that.”
Jiang Zhouzhou shook her head, her face flushing as she said, “It has nothing to do with Co- with you. No one could’ve expected to run into someone like that. And you showed up right on time! You scared him off immediately!”
Her eyes were bright again, her expression so vivid and alive.
Looking at the real her…
At her, right within reach…
Yin Yue lowered his gaze, hiding the thoughts in his eyes.
“My name is Yin Yue.”
Noticing that she was too embarrassed to say the three words “Brother Cockroach,” he took the initiative to tell her his name.
The corners of Jiang Zhouzhou’s lips lifted, and she called out softly, “I know now! Brother Yin Yue.”
With that simple form of address, the unfamiliarity between them vanished completely.
Yin Yue couldn’t help laughing. “You must be hungry. I’ll take you to eat something good.”
Almost unconsciously, he took Jiang Zhouzhou’s hand. His palm was cool, with a thin layer of calluses.
Jiang Zhouzhou’s fingertips trembled. In the end, she didn’t pull away and simply let him hold her hand.
She had read online before that people from Gangcheng had a habit of holding the other person’s hand when they walked…
Brother Cockroach was probably just used to it. He likely didn’t mean anything more by it.
The two entered the restaurant one after the other. Since he had reserved a table in advance, a server led the way.
Jiang Zhouzhou followed obediently behind, her gaze drifting, intentionally or not, to Yin Yue’s back.
He was so tall! He was probably about the same height as Gu Nanfeng, but his back was a little broader than Gu Nanfeng’s. Feeling the thin calluses on his palm, Jiang Zhouzhou guessed that he must have worked out regularly for years.
His looks weren’t as refined as Gu Nanfeng’s, nor were they as sharp as Zhou Xian’s. He had the kind of face that felt pleasant at first glance. On top of that, he wore a pair of silver-and-black half-rim glasses on the bridge of his nose, adding a scholarly air to his already gentle temperament.
Jiang Zhouzhou’s gaze moved to his hand again. Several loops of agarwood prayer beads were wrapped around his wrist, their grain clear and their color lustrous.
Even though Jiang Zhouzhou didn’t know much about agarwood, she had heard the saying, “One tael of agarwood is worth ten thousand taels of gold.”
When they arrived at the reserved table, Yin Yue finally let go of Jiang Zhouzhou’s hand.
He sat across from her and handed her the menu first.
Jiang Zhouzhou waved her hand and said very earnestly, “Brother Yin Yue is the guest, so you should order first.”
Yin Yue chuckled. “But I want to try what you like to eat.”
Since he had put it that way, Jiang Zhouzhou asked whether there was anything he didn’t eat, then ordered several of the restaurant’s signature dishes.
After the server left, Yin Yue picked up an exquisitely packaged bag and handed it to Jiang Zhouzhou.
“A gift for you.”
Jiang Zhouzhou froze slightly. She hadn’t noticed at all that Yin Yue had prepared a gift.
She wanted to refuse, but if she did, she would definitely hurt his feelings.
When someone carefully prepared a gift for you, what they wanted in return was surely your delight, not a mood-killing rejection.
Jiang Zhouzhou accepted the gift with both hands, her face full of joy. “Thank you, Brother Yin Yue.”
Yin Yue smiled at her. “Open it and see if you like it.”
Jiang Zhouzhou nodded and carefully opened the bag. Inside was a wooden box carved with exquisite patterns.
She took the box out and opened it. The moment she saw what was inside, her eyes lit up.
It was a jade bangle.
The jade bangle was clear all the way through, without the slightest impurity. It was as clean and transparent as ice carved into shape, while still carrying jade’s unique warm, luminous texture.
With just one glance, anyone could tell it was worth a fortune.
