Summary
I married in place of my Eldest Sister, becoming the wife of the notorious and unscrupulous power-holder, Jing Heng.
My Eldest Sister was showered with love by our entire family, but she was mute.
So I could only pretend to be mute as well.
On our wedding night, I waited in the room until I was nearly asleep, when someone finally pushed open the door and lifted my bridal veil.
Looking up, I saw a face so handsome it was almost unreal. I nearly blurted out, “So handsome,” but suddenly remembered my current persona.
Oh right, I am supposed to be mute now.
So I could only gaze at him, hoping to convey my thoughts through my eyes.
Jing Heng’s eyes lifted slightly at the corners. He reached out, pinched my chin, and tilted it up, as if examining me carefully:
“I heard that three years ago, Madam suffered a serious illness, and now cannot speak. I suppose, you can’t even cry out in pain, can you?”
I panicked instantly.
His reputation was infamous-could he have some unspeakably terrifying fetish?
Just as I was thinking this, he chuckled softly and spoke again:
“But I’ve heard that even those who cannot speak can at least make some muffled sounds.”
After my Eldest Sister became mute, I had only seen her once before this marriage arrangement, so I wasn’t quite sure about her current vocal state.
Hearing Jing Heng say this, I believed him, so I made two muffled sounds.
He suddenly laughed, his eyes shining like glass lanterns reflecting light, so bright it was dazzling, and his gaze seemed full of affection.
He lowered his head and kissed me, murmuring, “That’s enough.”
My face suddenly flushed hot.
