The Perfect Plot of My Brother - Chapter 1
Chapter 1
My brother has loved putting on a front since he was a kid.
It started when I was four and he was seven.
My parents were busy with work and couldn’t look after two young children. They were thinking about sending me to stay with relatives for a while, but they didn’t expect what happened next.
Before we could even step out the door, we ran into Meng Yunchuan, who had just come home from school.
Meng Yunchuan was surrounded by several boys from his class. When they saw me with my pigtails and dazed, cute expression, they all started talking at once.
“Wow, Meng Yunchuan, you actually have a sister!”
“Your sister is so cute! Can she play with us?”
“Yeah, yeah!”
Basking in the admiration of his peers, my brother’s eyes sparkled. He tilted his little chin up slightly, looking quite smug. “Of course. My sister is very clingy with me.”
Me, who was ready to head to a relative’s house: “?”
I stared at the young boy who lied without even blinking and fell silent.
Is being a poser part of the basic self-cultivation of a side character?
Yes.
I am a transmigrator. However, I’m not the female lead, nor am I the villainess; I’m just a plain old background character.
The only person in our family with even a bit of a role is my show-off brother.
In the original story, he couldn’t stand the villain at school-a boy from a humble background who possessed a stubborn pride. My brother targeted the villain, got slapped in the face for it, targeted him again, and was eventually driven to physical violence. He was expelled from school, lived his life in a daze, and ended up accomplishing nothing as an adult, meeting a miserable end.
He was the textbook definition of cannon fodder.
After reading the whole book, I felt he brought it on himself and didn’t have much sympathy for him.
But my mother didn’t know his true nature. Not wanting to embarrass him in front of others, she pulled him aside and whispered, “Yunchuan, we have to take your sister to stay with relatives for a while first. She can’t play with your friends.”
She can’t?!
Those words were no different from a public slap to my brother’s face!
The boy’s face flushed red instantly, and his eyes widened. In the next moment, he grabbed our mother’s hand, his bravado vanishing as he pleaded repeatedly, “Mom, I’m already grown up! I can take care of my sister! Please don’t send her away…”
By the end, my brother’s voice was choking up.
My mother exchanged a hesitant look with my father, still worried. “Are you sure you can take good care of your sister?”
Under the envious gazes of his companions, my brother beat his chest and promised, “Of course! As long as I’m alive, I’ll never let my sister suffer even the slightest grievance!”
Me: Like hell I believe you!
But my parents believed him.
And so, I was left at home.
My parents left early and came home late, and my brother had to go to school himself.
I thought he was just talking out of his ears. After all, the elementary school wasn’t exactly close to our house, and it was June-the heat at noon was stifling.
I was just about to fend for myself when the front door was pushed open.
The sound of heavy panting drew closer.
I turned around to see the young boy, his face flushed red, tugging at his collar to fan himself while kicking off his shoes. He was clearly exhausted by the heat.
He had likely run all the way back. Gasping for air, he saw me staring blankly at him. When he spoke, his voice still carried a childish tone. “Wait a bit, Sister… let Brother rest for a second, then I’ll heat up lunch for you!”
My gaze flickered.
He actually rushed back?
Perhaps afraid that I was truly starving, Meng Yunchuan didn’t rest for more than a few minutes before heading to the kitchen. Since he was only in the first grade, he wasn’t very tall-barely taller than the countertop. He dragged a stool over, stepped up, and struggled to put the food Mom had made that morning into the microwave.
Three minutes later.
With a “ding,” he reached out to grab the plate without a second thought!
My eyes widened, and I rushed over. “Don’t-”
Before I could finish my sentence…
With a loud crash, the plate shattered into pieces.
Meng Yunchuan wailed, clutching his fingers. But before he could recover, his peripheral vision caught the mess and blood on the floor, and he froze.
I followed his gaze downward. A shard of porcelain was lodged in my calf, and blood was gushing out.
Before I could say anything, Meng Yunchuan panicked. Ignoring his burned hand, he knelt down to check my wound, his voice urgent. “Sister! Sister, you’re bleeding! Don’t be scared, Brother is here!”
“I’m not scared-”
I was quite speechless, but then…
The young boy looked up. His eyes were bloodshot and brimming with tears, looking as if he might burst into sobs at any moment, yet he desperately tried to act composed.
Suddenly, it felt as if something had knocked against my heart.
I let out a small, inward laugh.
He was clearly the one who was terrified, yet he insisted on putting on a front.
But…
He didn’t seem so annoying after all.
