The Path of Revenge After Rebirth - Chapter 15
It was the day of the school anniversary performance.
I ran into Lin Jiu by the school’s artificial lake.
She wore a low-key yet luxurious silver cocktail dress, with an expensive diamond necklace now adorning her neck.
I knew very well-it was most likely Lu Xinting who had bought it to comfort her.
“Lu Xinxi, do you really think being the Lu Family heiress can protect you forever?”
“You’ve been bullying me for so long. Do you really think I won’t fight back?”
“I’ll make you pay a thousand times over.”
“So what if you know about Jiang Tian and me? He’s in love with me, and your brother only loves me too.”
“Someone like you will never get anyone’s love.”
She rattled on endlessly. I just smiled and threw back one line:
“Did the bathroom water taste good?”
Then, as her expression changed sharply, I turned and left.
By dusk, the fiery sunset spread inch by inch across the horizon.
The girls from the dance team and I finished changing into our performance dresses, lifting the hems as we hurried from the dance studio to the backstage area.
Halfway there, I suddenly realized the prop I’d prepared for the final curtain call was missing.
“Did I leave it in the dance studio?”
I thought back carefully and decided to go look for it.
Su Lan asked, “Want me to come with you?”
“It’s fine, it’s not heavy. I can handle it alone.”
I smiled and said, “You all go get your makeup done backstage, and coordinate with the set teacher about the order of our props.”
The vast comprehensive building was empty and echoing.
Lifting the shimmering gold hem of my dress, I strode up the stairs.
But just as I reached the floor where the dance studio was, I stopped.
A few steps ahead on the staircase stood someone.
The golden-red glow of the setting sun streamed in through the window, illuminating only half his face.
Most of his face was shrouded in darkness, his eyes deep and unfathomable as whirlpools in the sea.
Jiang Tian.
He spoke in a low voice, as if suppressing a storm that had yet to break:
“Xinxin, what are you doing?”
“None of your damn business. Get lost.”
I tried to brush past him, lifting my foot to head upstairs.
But suddenly, a powerful force seized my shoulder.
My mind froze for a second.
By the time I reacted, my body was already weightless-I was falling backward.
Behind me were dozens of steep steps.
My back hit the ground, and I tumbled heavily down the stairs.
In a haze of pain, I landed beside the iron railing, a faint crack almost coming from my ankle bone.
Jiang Tian walked down the steps, one at a time, and stopped by my side.
He still looked at me with those calm, sorrowful eyes.
But when he spoke, his voice was icy cold:
“Xinxin, don’t blame me.”
“Since the day you were born, you’ve had everything. Even if you miss this chance, there will be countless paths for you.”
“But Lin Jiu isn’t like you.”
“She’s already done her best, as much as she possibly can.”
After that, he grabbed my already sprained ankle.
And with force, smashed my calf against the iron railing.
