Summary
On New Year’s Eve, I went to the hospital alone for an abortion. My mother, who had tracked me down, cornered me in the waiting area.
Livid, she slapped me hard across the face. “Have you been sleeping around? You have such a good man for a husband, yet you don’t know how to appreciate him. You’re nothing but a slut!”
My husband rushed over and pulled me into his arms. Burning up with a high fever, I murmured a question to my mother: “Mom, why did you even give birth to me?”
By the time she understood the weight of those words, it was already too late.
