The Little Spoiled Brat Divorces with a Child, Driving the Big Boss Crazy - Chapter 83
Chapter 83
The vegetables in Hu Chuang’s arms tumbled noisily to the ground.
Lu Ying’s combat ability had terrified him.
Damn.
That mouth firing bullets without pause belonged to the pampered little princess raised by that bastard Jin Beizhou, didn’t it?
With such formidable combat ability, how had anyone at that pet store managed to reduce her to tears last time?
Or did someone have to strike directly at her most vulnerable spot to unleash this particular talent?
No wonder Jin Beizhou refused to let her go. If Hu Chuang were in his place, he would not be able to let go either.
After finishing her tirade, Lu Ying entered the residential complex without the slightest change in expression. Dajun and the others remained outside until Jiao An finally left, still cursing under his breath.
Jin Beizhou learned what had happened immediately.
At dinnertime, the man arrived at the Jiao Family’s home with frost covering his face, like a demon come to claim a life, and led his men in kicking down the front door.
The Jiao household rushed out in alarm.
Bodyguards from both sides cleared a path. The members of the Jiao Family looked at one another, then watched in terror as the man at the center strode toward them.
His eyes and brows were sharp as a naked blade, and his gaze seemed capable of cutting flesh.
Jin Beizhou did not bother with anyone else. His target was clear. He went straight to Jiao An, grabbed him by the hair, and slammed his head onto the dining table.
The sound of shattering plates and bowls filled the dining room.
“Since we grew up together,” Jin Beizhou said, his hand tightening until his knuckles turned white while his voice remained perfectly calm, “you should know where my bottom line lies.”
It did not matter if Jiao An betrayed or humiliated him. A true man knew when to bend and when to stand tall.
But if Jiao An tried to lay a hand on Lu Ying, Jin Beizhou would kill him.
Jiao An’s face was pressed into the food. He struggled in a wretched state and cried out in pain, “Now you’re desperate? Where were you before?”
“I’ll atone for my own sins,” Jin Beizhou said ominously. “But what the hell are you? You think you’re worthy of touching her?”
With that, he seized the hand Jiao An had used to grab Lu Ying and wrenched it savagely.
Jiao An’s howl echoed throughout the Jiao residence.
His parents panicked. “Beizhou… He didn’t know any better…”
Jin Beizhou drove a knee into Jiao An’s abdomen, then kicked him away in disgust. “This is only a warning. Disturb her again, and I really will make the Jiao Family disappear.”
This man was insane.
He was a complete madman.
“Uncle, Auntie.” Jin Beizhou pulled out a tissue and wiped his hands, his manner careless. “They say an unworthy wife can ruin three generations. It seems the Jiao Family is determined to destroy itself.”
Jiao An’s parents fell deathly silent.
Before leaving, Jin Beizhou suddenly looked back.
Everyone in the room went silent as the grave, staring at the man who looked more terrifying than a ghost beneath the night sky.
“Oh, right,” Jin Beizhou drawled. “I’m the one who took Jin Meimei. I’m borrowing her for a few days. I’ll return her when I’m finished.”
“…”
After leaving the Jiao residence, Jin Beizhou went to Caotang.
Separated by a single wall, Hu Chuang and Lu Ying sat on opposite sides. One enthusiastically shared gossip while the other bit into an apple and listened with relish.
The sight made Jin Beizhou laugh in exasperation. Those two really did get along astonishingly well.
When Hu Chuang saw him, he stared in disbelief. “Aren’t you supposed to be away on business?”
“Is there anything to eat?” Jin Beizhou asked Hu Chuang, though his gaze remained fixed on Lu Ying. “I’ve missed two meals.”
“…”
Fine.
Hu Chuang went downstairs and asked the chef to cook for him.
The flowers and plants in the courtyard swayed with a soft rustle.
Jin Beizhou stood much taller than the wall, giving him a clear view of Lu Ying’s belly, which had grown a little larger.
He stood in the light, tall and handsome, his eyes so gentle they seemed capable of melting. “Why aren’t you saying anything?”
Lu Ying held an apple core. “I should go to bed.”
Before she could turn, Jin Beizhou reached over the wall and easily caught her shoulder, preventing her from leaving.
He had missed her so much that his eyes stung.
“Did you miss me?” he blurted out.
“You’re sick!” Lu Ying snapped.
Who in their right mind would miss their ex-husband?
Jin Beizhou’s lips curved into a smile. “Then why were you so upset when Jiao An insulted me?”
“Don’t flatter yourself.” Lu Ying had had enough. “I was defending my own dignity…”
Perhaps the night was too dark and the fragrance of the plants in the courtyard too intoxicating. Jin Beizhou found himself bewitched, certain that all the wonders in the world could not compare to a single smile from her.
His grip tightened. Stretching his neck over the wall, he quickly captured her lips and sucked on them.
He missed her.
The blood in his veins roared and boiled, urging him to deepen this hard-won kiss.
Lu Ying exploded. She slapped him hard across the face, and when they broke apart, she roughly shoved the apple core into his mouth.
“Do you believe I’ll report you for sexual harassment?”
Jin Beizhou bit down on the core she had been eating. Several finger marks rose on his cheek, but his eyes were filled with laughter.
Lu Ying turned and strode away.
Realizing what she intended to do, Jin Beizhou stuffed the entire apple core into his mouth, chewed it up, and swallowed. His long legs stirred the night wind as he hurried outside in a panic.
He intercepted Lu Ying the moment she reached his side.
The man spread his arms, guilt and pleading mingling in his expression. “I was wrong. You can hit me two more times, but let’s not joke about the baby, okay?”
“No!” Lu Ying was so furious she could no longer think straight. “As long as the baby is here, you’ll keep acting without restraint. I’m getting rid of…”
Jin Beizhou’s eyes turned red in an instant. “I was wrong. I really was. Please.”
The wind swept past them. Summer was approaching.
Lu Ying enunciated, “I have no intention of getting back together with you. I simply don’t see any need for us to become enemies, since we still share a child. You’ll have your own life in the future, and I’ll have my new life and a new boyfriend. What you’re doing is causing me trouble!”
“…” Her words were like pincers twisting savagely around Jin Beizhou’s heart. “What boyfriend?”
“I don’t intend to remain single forever, but you will never be one of my options.”
“Stop dreaming, Lu Yingying!” Jin Beizhou’s eyes were bloodshot. “My daughter will never call another man Daddy!”
“Of course she won’t be forced to. She has her own freedom,” Lu Ying said. “When she gets older, she can even decide for herself whether she wants to live with her mother or her father. But by the same token, she has no right to interfere in my choices or my life.”
Then she stated clearly, “What I can do is maintain proper boundaries with other men until I find the right partner. I’ve suffered through that kind of suspicion myself. I will never plant seeds of doubt in someone else’s mind.”
“…”
It was as though a thunderbolt exploded directly above Jin Beizhou’s head.
“I’m asking you one last time.” Lu Ying’s tone left no room for doubt. “Can you maintain proper boundaries with me or not?”
Jin Beizhou’s back stiffened.
Lu Ying continued, “That includes, but isn’t limited to, physical contact, suggestive words or actions, and anything that could invite misunderstanding. If you can’t do it, I will give up everything before I keep this child…”
Jin Beizhou covered her mouth.
His hand was shaking.
His entire body was shaking.
How could she be so cruel?
When had her heart become this hard?
Where was the Lu Yingying who had always softened toward him so easily? Where was the Lu Yingying who used to smile the moment she saw him?
“This is…” His voice was hoarse. “This is… our daughter. Don’t do this. I’m begging you…”
Lu Ying pushed his hand away. “Just answer yes or no!”
Moisture gathered in Jin Beizhou’s eyes. “Yingying…”
Lu Ying nodded, taking that as his answer. Without the slightest hesitation, she turned toward the hospital.
She had spent far too much of her life entangled in relationships that should have ended. She had once watched herself walk into a swamp, powerless to save herself.
How many nights had she buried her face in her pillow and cried in secret?
And who had been there when she leaned against the door of that guesthouse in Weijisi and wept?
No one would ever control her emotions again.
No one would ever drain her spirit again.
The wind whispered around them.
Behind her came a single word from the man, hopeless and shattered.
“Yes.”
