The Little Spoiled Brat Divorces with a Child, Driving the Big Boss Crazy - Chapter 79
Chapter 79
The three of them walked back toward Caotang together.
Wedged between the other two, Hu Chuang tried to liven the mood. “From now on, leave Feibao’s baths to Zhouzi. Don’t come out here by yourself again, little sister.”
Lu Ying gave a vague hum of acknowledgment.
“And don’t cry all by yourself. Are you stupid?” Hu Chuang coughed. “What’s the point of having an ex-husband if you don’t curse him out? Exes exist to be scolded and damned. What else would you do, give him your blessing?”
Lu Ying was speechless.
Jin Beizhou, on the other hand, remained perfectly obedient and said nothing, as though his silence signaled his agreement.
“Besides, what happened today wasn’t even the employee’s fault,” Hu Chuang declared indignantly. “It was obviously Zhouzi’s fault! How could he let you go out alone with your belly that big?”
The more Lu Ying listened, the more something felt wrong. “Brother…”
“Don’t say anything!” Hu Chuang shouted. “It was his fault! When you get home, make him kneel and kowtow to you!”
Lu Ying could not help interrupting. “Brother, we’re divorced.”
Hu Chuang scratched his head. “You are? Then get back together! It’s not that hard!”
“…” Lu Ying quietly quickened her steps. “Maybe you should eat somewhere else tonight, Brother Hu Chuang.”
Hu Chuang’s face fell.
The two men watched her retreating figure. Hu Chuang lowered his voice. “It looks like the harm you did Xiao Yingying runs deeper than the sea. The moment she hears anything about remarriage, she wants to run.”
Jin Beizhou’s gaze remained calm as his fingertips rubbed the dried mud from Feibao’s fur.
Of course he knew.
He was the one who had taught Lu Ying what it felt like to have no one to turn to. She had never hidden anything before. It was only after suffering disappointment after disappointment because of him that, whenever something happened, she no longer even thought of asking anyone else for help.
He and Lu Ying should have had a happy little family. Now, he had no one but himself to blame for being alone.
But what was he supposed to do now?
Lu Ying hated having him around, yet he could not bring himself to leave her to live alone.
“You can live in the house at Caotang.”
“…” Hu Chuang stared blankly. “What?”
“Haven’t you always wanted to move out?” Jin Beizhou said. “Lu Ying won’t let me live here, so you move in. She won’t throw you out.”
At that, his expression turned uncharacteristically solemn. “I’ll owe you. From now on, I’ll walk through fire and water…”
Hu Chuang’s head began to ache. “Stop, stop, stop! What would I need you to walk through fire and water for? If you can convince my grandparents, parents, aunts, uncles, and all the rest to let me move out, then I’ll owe you a favor!”
Seriously.
All he wanted was a little freedom, yet a mountain of elders weighed him down.
Strangely enough, the Old Master of the Hu Family refused to listen to anyone except Jin Beizhou. One word from him carried more weight than a hundred from anyone else.
By the time they reached Caotang, Yan Xia and Han Xi had already set up the grill in the courtyard.
Jin Beizhou stood at the entrance, his voice faintly plaintive. “Quite a party at home, isn’t it?”
Hu Chuang faltered. “Little sister, why don’t we… I mean, he’s all alone anyway…”
Lu Ying looked back. “He has to pack his things and move. He doesn’t have time.”
“…” Jin Beizhou’s eyelids drooped. “Who needs an entire night to pack?”
“It seems giving you two days was too generous.”
“…”
Forget it.
Compared to forcing his way in for a single meal, he would rather earn himself one extra day here.
“I really don’t have time.” Jin Beizhou’s infuriating attitude returned the instant he turned his head. “I need to take my son home for a bath.”
Hu Chuang curled his lip.
What a shameless bastard.
With Auntie Zhang watching over her, Lu Ying was allowed only a few meat skewers. Afterward, she held her nutritious meal and chatted with Yan Xia and the others.
When she mentioned the pet store, Yan Xia and Han Xi rolled up their sleeves, eager to go trash the place.
Hu Chuang took a swig of beer. “What about prenatal education? May I ask what happened to prenatal education?”
“…”
Everyone chatted over one another, and the courtyard buzzed with conversation.
Just then, a rustling sound came from the top of the wall, accompanied by a dog’s bark.
They all turned around.
The man had just showered. His skin was cool and pale, his lips red, and his half-dry hair fell loosely over his forehead. Draped over the wall like that, he was so handsome it was almost blinding.
Feibao barked at the courtyard, a long string of drool hanging from its mouth.
Yan Xia and Han Xi quietly fell silent.
Jin Beizhou lounged against the wall, one hand supporting Feibao so it would not fall while the other held a piece of bread that he ate one bite at a time.
If this had been any other neighbor, Lu Ying would have exchanged a few polite words and invited him over to eat with them.
“Bro,” Hu Chuang said helplessly, “bread is all you’re having for dinner?”
Jin Beizhou seemed to choke. He stretched his neck and swallowed with difficulty before replying, “Can I at least have some water?”
Hu Chuang eagerly tossed him a can of beer, then grabbed a handful of meat skewers. “Want these?”
“…” Jin Beizhou’s gaze shifted to a certain woman. “Don’t you need the owner’s permission?”
Hu Chuang fell silent, then looked at Lu Ying. “Little sister…?”
Lu Ying’s expression did not change. “No.”
“…”
See?
It would have been better not to ask.
If he had simply handed the food over, she would not have stopped him.
Hu Chuang privately thought that the real problem was how these two interacted. They were both proud and neither was willing to give way or lower their head on certain matters. Of course their conflicts had piled higher and higher.
A soft huff came from the wall.
Hu Chuang had had enough.
Under the table, Yan Xia pinched Lu Ying and whispered, “Your ex-husband keeps staring at us. I can’t eat.”
“Then switch places with me.”
Lu Ying had been sitting with her back to the neighboring property.
After they switched, she was almost directly face-to-face with Jin Beizhou.
The man leisurely bit into his dry bread and drawled, “Lu Yingying, your son is howling with hunger. Can’t you hear him?”
“…” Lu Ying paused. “You didn’t feed it?”
“I did,” Jin Beizhou said. “Have you been secretly giving it food from the table? It’s become picky.”
“Then why aren’t you feeding it?”
Jin Beizhou narrowed his eyes and laughed in exasperation. “You do know it’s only supposed to eat dog food, don’t you?”
“…” Lu Ying had a sinking feeling. “Then where did the saying about feeding leftovers to dogs come from?”
She was not meticulous when it came to caring for anything. She had mixed dog food with her own meals. She remembered that when her grandfather took her to visit relatives in the countryside, all the village dogs had been fed that way.
Jin Beizhou had not expected to uncover this. His head throbbed with anger. “Are you planning to raise my daughter like this too?”
“She’s my daughter.”
“Yours or mine, whatever.” Jin Beizhou did not argue the point. “You’re not going to give her drinks before she’s a month old or solid food before she grows teeth, are you?”
“…” Lu Ying’s face went blank. “Get lost.”
“I’ll take care of our daughter after she’s born…”
Lu Ying made to stand. “Are you leaving or not?”
Jin Beizhou walked away with Feibao tucked against him. “I’m leaving. If I don’t, I’m afraid this little land mine will explode all the way over here.”
Lu Ying nearly ground her teeth to pieces.
“Oh, right.” Jin Beizhou stopped after a couple of steps. “I picked all the vegetables Brother Hu Chuang brought over. Did you like them?”
“…”
The courtyard went silent.
The charcoal in the grill gave a faint crackle.
Yan Xia kicked Han Xi under the table.
Han Xi cleared his throat. “You two really got divorced?”
Hu Chuang eagerly joined in. “Don’t be angry with him, little sister. You know better than anyone what a shameless bastard he is, right?”
“…” Lowering her eyes to the matsutake mushroom skewer in her hand, Lu Ying wished she could stab it straight into Jin Beizhou’s eyeballs.
