The Little Spoiled Brat Divorces with a Child, Driving the Big Boss Crazy - Chapter 72
Chapter 72
Lu Ying exploded.
“Don’t compare Jin Meimei to my grandfather!”
“I’m not comparing them,” Jin Beizhou said with perfect clarity. “Grandpa told you to cut off contact with me, and you obeyed immediately. If I’d done the same thing, dying eight hundred times wouldn’t be enough to atone. Why are certain actions perfectly acceptable when you take them, but monstrous crimes when I do?”
Lu Ying had no answer.
Seeing the situation escalate, Ge Qi said anxiously, “Xiao Er, don’t say things like that…”
Lu Ying said, “Eldest Sister-in-law, let him speak.”
“It’s fine when boys pursue you and stuff love letters into your hands,” Jin Beizhou enunciated. “But when girls pursue me, I’m a shameless bastard who must have provoked them. When someone pursues you, it’s my fault. When someone pursues me, it’s still my fault. Am I just a walking mistake? Is everything automatically my fault?”
“…”
Jin Beizhou continued, “You despise me for weighing the pros and cons. Since when did weighing the pros and cons become something shameful? From the moment I entered the Jin Family, I had to weigh every advantage against every cost. I used those calculations to fight for the life I wanted and move closer to the girl I loved. What was wrong with that?”
Lu Ying threw a glass of water in his face.
Jin Beizhou closed his eyes and accepted it.
The atmosphere in the dining room grew taut.
“You could have told me sooner,” Lu Ying said. “You preferred watching me suffer. Again and again, you watched me grow jealous and heartbroken because of Jin Meimei, yet you never explained. You left me to consume myself and guess wildly, then casually smoothed everything over with gifts and money. If you’d told me the truth, would I really have refused to understand your pressure?”
The corners of Jin Beizhou’s eyes turned scarlet. “Say again that you would have understood. Lu Yingying, you’re a liar!”
Lu Ying lowered her head, grabbed Ge Qi’s glass in an instant, and threw that water in the man’s face too.
Jin Beizhou’s hair and cheeks were soaked.
Ge Qi remained silent.
Outside, this man could slaughter gods and demons alike. At this dining table, the most he dared do was argue a few words.
Ge Qi had watched the two of them interact this way since childhood.
“You’re right,” Lu Ying said furiously. “The moment you told me the truth, I would have looked down on you. You wouldn’t even have met the minimum threshold to approach me!”
Jin Beizhou retorted, “Then was I wrong to call you a liar?”
“No. That’s why I’m giving you your freedom now. You no longer have to live with a liar like me…”
“Dream on!” Jin Beizhou said bitterly. “That is my baby!”
Lu Ying’s mind overheated, and all reason vanished. She slapped her own abdomen. “Then I don’t want it! I won’t give birth to your baby!!”
Jin Beizhou’s heart and soul shattered. He nearly overturned the dining table as he shot toward her. “Get the doctor in here!”
Ge Qi cried anxiously, “Yingying!”
Lu Ying wanted to reassure her. She wanted to say she knew what she was doing. This was her baby; how could she possibly have struck hard?
But before she could say anything, Jin Beizhou had already lifted her in his arms. Servants flooded in from outside, dragging the family doctor with them.
Lu Ying was placed on the bed, and the doctor examined her.
Jin Beizhou held both her hands and knelt on one knee beside the bed, watching the doctor’s every movement with tension and terror.
The bedroom was utterly silent.
After a while, the doctor cleared his throat. “Everything is fine. It was essentially the equivalent of the baby receiving a slap.”
“…”
“But it would still be best to avoid getting this angry,” the doctor continued. “Be careful, or the baby may be born with a fiery temper…”
Jin Beizhou’s heart slowly settled. He said coldly, “The baby will have a fiery temper even if she stays calm. It takes after its mother.”
“…”
Ge Qi accompanied the doctor outside.
The bedroom fell quiet.
Jin Beizhou was still kneeling there, and Lu Ying’s hands remained trapped in his grasp, impossible to pull free.
After a moment of silence, Jin Beizhou released her, pressed his face against her belly, and said hoarsely, “If we argue, then we argue. Why hit the baby? Do Mommy and Daddy slap you whenever they fight? I was wrong, all right?”
Lu Ying showed no expression. “I want to go home.”
Her emotions always spun out of control so easily when she was with him.
“Forget it.” Jin Beizhou’s gaze was dark and obscure. “You’ll use force against the baby. You have to remain where I can watch you.”
Lu Ying said, “This is my baby!”
Jin Beizhou retorted, “Wasn’t it your baby when you first became pregnant? Did you think of it as your baby when you made the hospital appointment and arranged prayers for its spirit?”
“…”
He knew about that?
“No, you didn’t. Back then, you only thought of it as mine,” Jin Beizhou said. “You wanted to eliminate a problem connected to me, and you didn’t even notify me. We were still married. Didn’t I have the right to know?”
His sharp, forceful tone brimmed with resentment, as though he were the wrathful ghost of a man betrayed and destroyed by a heartless woman.
Lu Ying asked, “Are you finished?”
“Yes.”
“Then get out.”
Jin Beizhou hesitated. “…Let me think whether I have anything else to add.”
The instant Lu Ying’s hand moved, Jin Beizhou caught it.
“Please, baby.” He wrapped his other arm around her. “Hit me instead, all right?”
Lu Ying sneered. “I was trying to hit you. Why did you stop me?”
“…”
Who knew where she might slap next?
After a brief standoff, Jin Beizhou pursed his lips. “Do you want anything else to eat?”
Lu Ying said, “I want to go home.”
“It’s time for your afternoon nap. I’ll stay with you.”
“I want to go home.”
Jin Beizhou climbed onto the bed. “I’ll tell you a story: the great battle of the fatty pork knuckle you always loved when you were sick with a fever…”
Lu Ying closed her eyes for a moment.
The man’s story had already reached the part where the pork knuckle’s skin was torn away, exposing the tender layers of fat and lean meat inside.
“Jin Beizhou,” she suddenly called.
“Hm?”
“Starting today,” Lu Ying informed him, “for every day you refuse to let me go home, I won’t eat.”
“…”
Lu Ying was perfectly calm. “I told you before. I will not let anyone manipulate me through a child. If the baby obstructs my choices, then I will choose to give it up.”
Jin Beizhou’s body stiffened.
He remembered.
She had said this when he deliberately tricked her into coming to Jiezuo to help him find the household register.
So even then, she had been warning him.
When a man was driven into a corner, he truly would become desperate enough to do anything. Jin Beizhou said coldly, “Aren’t you afraid I’ll go after Yan Xia and the others?”
Lu Ying ignored him.
She was tired.
Let everything be destroyed.
If they were destined to become enemies in the end, then so be it.
But fear grew heavier and heavier in Jin Beizhou’s heart. She was so quiet. She didn’t hit him or argue with him. Her entire mind was fixed on leaving.
What else could he do?
He had nowhere left to turn.
Gritting his teeth, Jin Beizhou sat up and made a call in front of her. “The Yan Family’s hospital…”
Before he could finish, Lu Ying grabbed the thermos from the bedside cabinet and aimed it at her own abdomen.
“Try it.” Her eyes were red. “Let’s see whether your people move faster or I do.”
Moisture darkened Jin Beizhou’s pupils. His Adam’s apple moved with visible difficulty.
“Does it have to be this way?” Lu Ying’s voice trembled. “We can separate peacefully. I’ve even agreed to let you have visitation rights. Do we truly have to drive each other this far?”
Jin Beizhou’s voice was hoarse. “The baby was never the only thing I wanted.”
