The Little Spoiled Brat Divorces with a Child, Driving the Big Boss Crazy - Chapter 68
Chapter 68
Lu Ying refused and resisted the idea vehemently.
She had no idea where the car was going. Jin Beizhou’s expression remained gentle, but his jaw tightened more and more.
He drove very slowly while making one call after another. Every call went through the car’s Bluetooth system, so Lu Ying heard every word.
“I want the villa in Beijiang. It needs to have good exposure. Yes, raise the price. I want to move in today.”
“Cancel my meeting this afternoon. I need to stay with my wife.”
“Make me an appointment with an obstetrician…”
Lu Ying ended the call for him.
Expressionless, she said, “Stop acting crazy.”
Jin Beizhou reached across to the passenger seat, took her hand, and gently squeezed it. “If you don’t want to remarry, then we won’t remarry yet. But you need someone to care for you.”
“I don’t need anyone,” Lu Ying emphasized. “I’ve arranged everything. I made it through the first five months perfectly well. Why would I need you for the last five?”
Jin Beizhou said nothing.
He steered with one hand, the profile of his face taut, its sharpness carrying an irresistible aggression.
They hadn’t seen each other in more than a month. Jin Beizhou clenched his teeth. Why had he thought of nothing but work? Even if she refused, he should have found an opportunity to see her.
Then he wouldn’t have discovered this so late.
This enormous liar!
“Everything before was my fault,” he said hoarsely. “I accept all the blame. You can hit me or punish me however you want. But now we have a baby, and the baby needs a complete family with a father and a mother. I promise I’ll learn to be a good father, the kind of father your dad was to you.”
He was still holding Lu Ying’s hand, so she could clearly feel him trembling as he spoke.
“Are you all right?”
The bones in his throat shifted. “I’m fine.”
Lu Ying pointed out, “Your hand is shaking. If you’re sick, go to a hospital. Don’t get me killed in a car accident.”
Jin Beizhou released her hand and rested his long, bony fingers on the steering wheel.
No words could describe the enormity of the shock this had dealt him.
He had believed he was completely alone. He had thought he would spend the rest of his life like a rat in a sewer, secretly watching Lu Ying’s life without any right to approach her again.
He had been unable to find a single reason to draw near.
Yet the road had suddenly turned, revealing another path.
Lu Ying was carrying his baby.
The baby formed a bond between them.
At the same time, Jin Beizhou now had a blood relative: a child carried for him by the girl he loved most.
Another tiny life was drawing close to Jin Beizhou’s lonely existence.
He felt the tremor of their mingled blood.
“We’ll go back to Jiezuo first.” Jin Beizhou swallowed the emotions threatening to burst from him. “Tonight, we’ll move into the villa. I’ll have someone bring Auntie Zhang over. From now on, I’ll live there with you.”
“Stop acting crazy,” Lu Ying said, annoyed. “We’re divorced. I’m not living with you!”
Jin Beizhou replied, “Pretend you gained a guard dog.”
“…”
Jin Beizhou had always possessed a certain pride. When they argued, he would compromise, admit fault, and beg for forgiveness, but he never lowered his head this far.
It even brought one word to Lu Ying’s mind.
Humble.
When Gao Qin visited Caotang in March, she had shown Lu Ying a photograph taken in the war zone.
At the corner of a devastated wall beneath a sky filled with war, two-year-old Jin Beizhou stood beside his mother. His tiny white shirt was dirty and torn, yet faint golden threads still gleamed in the sunlight.
He was so small and in such a wretched state, yet he had not shed a single tear. He simply stood guard beside his mother and even covered her abdomen with his little black coat.
Even amid the dust-filled ruins, his pride remained unbroken. It was obvious he had received an excellent upbringing and strict discipline; dignity lingered in every tiny detail.
Time spun abruptly forward. The proud little boy in that old photograph suddenly overlapped with the man before her, who was offering to become her dog.
Lu Ying abruptly turned her face away. “I’ll call the police and report you for unlawful confinement.”
“…” Her words reminded Jin Beizhou of something else. “You were worried I’d get a criminal record because of the baby?”
Lu Ying was silent.
The car turned into the underground garage at Jiezuo.
Jin Beizhou glanced at her. “What plans have you made for our baby? Tell me about them.”
“I’m going home.” Lu Ying pushed at the door. “Unlock it!”
Jin Beizhou casually pressed a button, locking the doors from inside.
Lu Ying suppressed her anger and looked back at him. “I will never get back together with you just because we have a child. Do you understand?”
“There were misunderstandings between us,” Jin Beizhou said. “Those misunderstandings aren’t impossible to resolve…”
Lu Ying asked, “Then why didn’t you resolve them before?”
“…”
“You had your own plans and difficulties. I have no right to blame you,” Lu Ying said, trying to remain calm. “A marriage isn’t only one person’s responsibility. But I never want to live through that again: crying and heartbroken while you casually invested in Jin Meimei as though nothing had happened. I don’t want a life where every tiny disturbance sends my emotions exploding in a dozen different colors!”
The investment in Jin Meimei was only one example.
Lu Ying simply didn’t want to live in constant emotional torment.
She was always consuming herself over some word or action of Jin Beizhou’s that displeased her. He hadn’t been wrong to invest, and Lu Ying refused to say she was wrong for being hurt by it.
If neither of them was wrong, then they were simply incompatible.
Who could spend an entire lifetime living exactly as someone else wished?
He was willing to compromise while feelings remained between them. But what about when that love disappeared and only resentment remained? Would he eventually tell her, “Back then, I did this and that for you”?
Lu Ying never wanted to see that day arrive.
“Childhood sweethearts” was such a beautiful phrase. Did they have to drag it through a cesspit and turn it into bitter hatred before they could finally stop?
“As for the baby, as long as I remained in Beicheng, I never intended to hide it from you forever,” Lu Ying said. “You’re still its father. We can behave with dignity. In the future, you can visit regularly and spend time with it…”
Jin Beizhou interrupted hoarsely, “Do you think the baby is all I want?”
Lu Ying snapped, “I don’t care who or what you want. Right now, I can still speak calmly and tell you how I feel. If you keep forcing me, then let’s become enemies!”
“…”
Two bergamot oranges sat in the car’s storage compartment in case nausea struck her. Their faint, fresh sweetness filled the enclosed space.
Jin Beizhou’s eyes were dark and his lips pale. His gaze looked as though it had been rolled through water, damp with emotion.
“Don’t get angry,” he managed. “I only want to take care of you and the baby…”
“I don’t need you!” Lu Ying emphasized for the umpteenth time. “Men only ruin my mood…”
Jin Beizhou said, “You love me.”
“…”
“Otherwise, I wouldn’t be able to affect your mood.”
Lu Ying closed her eyes. “Fuck your mother…”
Before she could finish, the man’s warm, dry palm covered her mouth. He murmured patiently, “Don’t swear. Think of the baby.”
Lu Ying pulled his hand away and said cruelly, “You knew all along that you’d been taken in. You should have told me before we married. You deceived me. I never would have wanted you. You couldn’t even have passed my grandfather’s test…”
Jin Beizhou looked at her. “I never did pass Grandpa’s test. He only agreed because you loved me. Lu Yingying, you were the one who chose me.”
His palm moved gently, slowly cradling her face. “I don’t need parents or relatives. I can earn prestige and status for myself. If you dislike the fact that I’m an orphan so much, are you really going to make our baby grow up in a single-parent home too?”
