The Little Spoiled Brat Divorces with a Child, Driving the Big Boss Crazy - Chapter 67
Chapter 67
Naturally, Lu Ying refused to accept any of it.
Ge Qi shook her head. “Jiamu is advancing with unstoppable momentum, and Xiao Er is in enormous demand. From what I can tell, Grandpa is starting to regret what he did.”
Lu Ying wrinkled her nose but made no comment.
Ge Qi asked, “Has it been a while since you last went out?”
“Mm.” Lu Ying reclined on the sofa. “I feel lazy all the time. I even canceled my Go classes this month.”
Ge Qi advised patiently, “Don’t lie down all day. You need to walk every day, or labor will be difficult.”
“All right.”
The weather was pleasant over the Labor Day holiday, so Lu Ying asked Auntie Zhang to accompany her to the mall to look at newly arrived cribs and strollers.
The two spent a long time choosing, torn between different brands and models.
The baby was already five months old, and Lu Ying clearly looked pregnant. Her belly filled out the front of a muted, misty-blue dress.
Auntie Zhang stayed close beside her, frequently reminding her to move aside so no one bumped into her.
When Lu Ying walked out of the mall, the sunlight stung her eyes. The moment she opened them again, her gaze unexpectedly met the shocked eyes of someone standing across from her.
It was Jin Meimei.
Jin Meimei stared at her abdomen in disbelief. “You’re pregnant? Whose is it?”
“Your father’s,” Lu Ying replied.
“Lu Ying, why are you so arrogant?” Luo Binfen demanded beside her. “Who exactly do you have backing you?”
Lu Ying said, “Why would I need anyone? Even when I’m alone, the two of you are still so jealous your eyes turn red.”
“…”
“Second Sister-in-law.” Jin Meimei stepped closer. “Is it Second Brother’s?”
Lu Ying scoffed. “Third Sister, I’m under no obligation to report to you, am I?”
That reminded Lu Ying of another score she had to settle. “You kicked my Feibao.”
Their shadows overlapped.
Jin Meimei’s expression was complicated. Her gaze remained fixed on Lu Ying’s belly.
Judging by the timing, Lu Ying had already been pregnant when Jin Meimei was still carrying her own baby.
Yet Jin Meimei had failed to preserve her pregnancy, while Lu Ying and her child had safely survived the most dangerous first three months.
Jin Meimei suddenly raised her head. “What exactly makes me inferior to you?”
The abrupt change of subject made Lu Ying pause.
“I’m no less beautiful than you, and my grades were better,” Jin Meimei said, her eyes filled with resentment. “I may have lived under someone else’s roof, but everything I used came from the inheritance my parents left me. I lost my family, and so did you. Why do you always come out on top?”
Lu Ying had only three words for her. “You’re mentally ill.”
“I hate that little-princess act of yours most,” Jin Meimei said bitterly. “As if everyone in the world should revolve around you and pay attention to you…”
Lu Ying asked, “Aren’t you describing yourself?”
In the past, Lu Ying had only wanted Jin Beizhou’s attention. She had never wanted anyone else’s.
Jin Meimei continued, “Why did you give me clothes? Who wanted your worthless clothes? Did you have to flaunt how well your grandfather treated you right in front of me?”
“…” Lu Ying’s lashes fluttered. “Was I flaunting anything?”
And what did she mean by worthless clothes? Everything Lu Ying gave Jin Meimei had been from the latest collection and identical to her own!
Jin Meimei despised her innocent, bewildered expression. “If it weren’t for you, how could Second Brother have ended up where he is today? All you had to do was say you loved him. Do you have any idea how much he had to sacrifice in action? Did you ever try to understand him?”
Lu Ying was about to speak when the baby suddenly kicked her.
She lowered her eyes and rested a hand on her abdomen, feeling wave after wave of movement.
“Let me tell you the truth, Lu Ying,” Jin Meimei said. “I ordered the servant to kill Ah Li. I wanted to pin it on you. I deliberately threw away the bread too. Who wanted to eat something you made for practice?”
Before she could finish, Lu Ying suddenly reached out, seized her long hair, and slapped her. “You little bitch! I’ve wanted to beat you for a very long time!!”
Auntie Zhang panicked. “Oh, dear young lady, you can’t… You really can’t…”
She was five months pregnant. How could she fight someone?
The entrance to the mall instantly descended into chaos. Passing shoppers gathered around to watch.
Auntie Zhang clapped her hands and stamped her feet in alarm, but she couldn’t restrain this furious ancestor.
At some point, a man’s hand reached between them. He used his back to block Jin Meimei’s counterattack and pulled Lu Ying into his arms from the front.
The sharp crack of a slap rang out. Jin Meimei had struck the man’s back.
Breathing hard, Lu Ying raised her head in fury.
Reason returned like a rushing tide. The rage that had surged to her forehead vanished in an instant, replaced by cold creeping down her spine.
Voices boiled around them, but Jin Beizhou heard nothing. Every fragment of his attention had fixed on her swollen belly.
He seemed bewildered for a moment, as though trying to understand. Then he lowered his gaze and looked again.
Lu Ying instinctively stepped back.
Jin Beizhou’s lashes fluttered. His long, pale hand reached out tentatively, trying to rest against her abdomen.
Lu Ying slapped it away.
The back of his hand quickly turned red.
After a moment, Jin Beizhou blinked, still dazed.
“Lu Yingying,” he asked softly in confusion, “did you really start eating livestock feed? Why is your belly so big?”
Lu Ying pressed her lips together and retreated to Auntie Zhang’s side.
Sunlight poured over everything, making the world feel like a dream.
Jin Beizhou remained stunned for a long time. Details began drifting through his mind one after another.
Lu Ying had caught a cold but refused to take medicine.
She had refused to drink with Hu Chuang, even though she could normally hold her liquor.
She had mysteriously disappeared on New Year’s Day without telling anyone where she went.
She was always vomiting. First, she had called it a physiological aversion. Later, it became a stomach illness.
Oh.
There was also that clause in the divorce agreement stating that the woman had full authority to dispose of anything she took from the man.
At the previous reception, her waist had felt noticeably softer.
And she couldn’t eat hawthorn cake because hawthorn stimulated blood circulation.
She was pregnant.
She had been pregnant from the very beginning.
She had insisted on divorcing him even while carrying his child.
Moisture slowly filled Jin Beizhou’s eyes. “Lu Yingying, you’re a little liar.”
Lu Ying backed away and said calmly, “It isn’t yours.”
“Stop fucking lying!” Jin Beizhou’s voice abruptly rose. “Lie to me one more time and see what happens!”
The moment the words fell, his chest heaved. He added cautiously, “I was wrong. I’ll speak quietly.”
Lu Ying found his state terrifying.
Something twisted lurked beneath his apparent calm. The surface was still, but deep below it, violent waves were already raging.
It would take only one trigger to tear that calm apart.
“Auntie Zhang,” Lu Ying said softly, “let’s go home.”
“Yes, all right.”
The crowd had already parted. Jin Meimei and Luo Binfen still stood nearby.
Wind swept past Lu Ying’s ears. Suddenly, the world spun before her eyes, and she found herself in the man’s arms.
Jin Beizhou lifted her in a bridal carry and strode toward his car. “Let’s go.”
“…” Lu Ying froze for half a second before reacting. “I’m going back to my home! I’m not going with you!”
“Stop making trouble.” Jin Beizhou’s gentleness suppressed a deep restraint. “We have a baby now. I need to take care of you.”
Lu Ying grew anxious. “The baby is mine. It has nothing to do with you!”
Jin Beizhou leaned over to fasten her seat belt. “I won’t take it from you. The baby belongs to both of us.”
“…” His state made Lu Ying’s skin crawl. “Where are we going?”
Jin Beizhou answered, “To get remarried.”
