The Eight-Year Lie: Shattered Vows and a Vengeful Heart - Chapter 5
Perhaps Xu Ge trusted me too much. My fingerprint was on his phone. While he was showering, I took his phone and scrolled through it, finding nothing.
The moment I put the phone down, a thought flashed through my mind. I clicked on WeChat’s “switch account” option. Sure enough, there was another number. Looking at the string of digits, I searched my own phone: it was Xu Ge’s local card from when he was in university.
As soon as I logged into WeChat, everything became clear, because there was only one person inside.
The profile picture was a pink cartoon rabbit. Xu Ge hadn’t even given her a custom name, and her nickname was particularly cute.
Like a thief, I watched their chat history with a twisted expression. The chat history was short, mostly messages from that woman. Those messages disgusted me. Most importantly, I found out she hadn’t told Xu Ge about her pregnancy yet.
I quickly took photos of their chat history and the woman’s contact information, then restored the phone to its original state.
I knew that woman was eager to see Xu Ge and me break up, and then she would appear as a saintly figure. But how could I let her have her way?
That night, when Xu Ge hugged me, I pushed him away. He didn’t notice anything amiss and instead clung to me again. As he held my hand, he suddenly turned on the light and carefully examined my smooth hand.
“Wife, where’s your ring?”
I said lightly, “I drank too much today, I don’t remember where I put it.”
“Lost?” Xu Ge’s voice grew louder. He immediately picked up his phone, and while dialing, he comforted me, “It’s okay, wife, it must still be at the hotel. I’ll ask. Even if it’s lost, it doesn’t matter, I’ll buy you a bigger one.”
I turned my back, unwilling to respond. Afraid the phone call would disturb me, Xu Ge tucked me in and went to the living room outside to make the call.
The next morning, Xu Ge got up for work and prepared breakfast for me before he left. Usually, I would happily enjoy it, but now, they lay silently in the trash can.
My profile picture was our wedding photo with Xu Ge, so the woman accepted my friend request very quickly.
I introduced myself, stating that I wanted to meet her. The other party hesitated for a few minutes, then replied with an “okay.” The time and place were set by her: a coffee shop at the east gate of People’s Park.
It was a bustling area, and this girl was somewhat cautious. But caution was useless; my purpose was not there.
