The Eight-Year Lie: Shattered Vows and a Vengeful Heart - Chapter 2
After I started dating Xu Ge, he truly doted on me to death. He showered me with all the attention I hadn’t received in over a decade.
I never washed clothes again. In winter, I had hand warmers; in summer, cold drinks. He even accurately remembered my menstrual cycle, preparing red dates and brown sugar for me in advance. Whenever I looked back, he was right there beside me.
My mother left early, and my father never wanted me to go to school because, back in our hometown, a girl my age could be sold for a lot of money. So, when I got into university, my father refused to pay my tuition.
My tuition fees were earned by Xu Ge, who, despite developing a rash all over his body from the 37-degree heat while wearing a mascot costume, then spent his evenings washing dishes in a small restaurant until his hands turned white, saving every penny.
You see, he loved me so fiercely back then, a love known to all.
During holidays, I didn’t want to go home. At that time, his friends were traveling the world, but Xu Ge, who should have been with them, accompanied me to a ten-hour shift.
Although Xu Ge’s parents were both intellectuals, they never disapproved of us, nor did they ever look down on my absurd family.
