The Day She Never Asked Me to Get Back Together - Chapter 10
Chapter 10
The board meeting the next day was even uglier than I had imagined.
Qi Tingshan sat at the head of the long table, looking like a grandmaster who had everything under control.
When he saw me walk in, he even managed a small smile.
“Xiao Peng is here too?”
I slammed my folder onto the table.
“I’m here to see you off to your grave.”
Everyone at the table froze.
Ding Qichen nearly choked, turning a cough into a muffled laugh.
Qi Zhaoyuan lowered his head and rubbed his brow, as if he had already grown accustomed to my lack of civility the moment I opened my mouth.
Not long after the meeting began, Qi Tingshan went on the offensive.
He claimed that Qi Zhaoyuan was young and impetuous, lacking in personal morals, and had ruined the alliance with the Tang Family for the sake of a woman, making him unfit to remain in power.
As soon as those words were spoken, several veteran directors began to frown.
That was when Tang Shuyi pushed the door open and walked in.
She wasn’t wearing an evening gown today; instead, she had changed into a sharp white suit, looking so stunningly professional she seemed like she was there to stage a hostile takeover.
“Sorry, but I’m not taking the fall for this ‘ruined alliance.'”
She placed a recording transcript and a letter of authorization on the table.
“My father has authorized me to make a formal statement. The Tang Family has never supported a marriage alliance; we support Zhaoyuan personally.”
Immediately after, Ding Qichen laid out the repair shop’s ledgers, old testimonies, and the police report receipts one by one.
Finally, it was my turn.
I plugged the USB drive into the projector.
When the surveillance footage from the day of our breakup began to play, the expressions of everyone in the room shifted.
Qi Tingshan finally couldn’t sit still anymore.
“What is this supposed to prove?”
“It proves that three years ago, someone knew there were issues with the old case, yet they still tried to use the mistakes of the dead to suppress the living.”
I looked at him, emphasizing every word.
“It also proves that you’ve been living with a very guilty conscience all these years.”
He sneered. “What kind of thing are you to think you’re worthy of speaking here?”
“I’m the unlucky person you nearly forced into never daring to love again.”
“I’m also exactly the kind of ordinary person you thought was easiest to manipulate.”
“But what a pity.”
I curled my lips into a smirk.
“If you push an ordinary person too far, they bite.”
The police entered the room at that exact moment.
As soon as they stood their ground, the entire conference room fell into a dead silence.
The officer in the lead presented a document.
“Mr. Qi Tingshan, please cooperate with our investigation regarding the intentional tampering with a vehicle’s braking system twenty years ago, the forging of evidence, and recent threats to the personal safety of others.”
Qi Tingshan’s face instantly turned ashen.
He stood up abruptly, pointing at Qi Zhaoyuan.
“You’re sending your own uncle to prison for the sake of a woman?”
Qi Zhaoyuan finally looked up.
That single look was cold enough to make one shiver.
“It’s not for her.”
“It’s for my father, and for everyone you dragged into hell with you.”
“Furthermore.”
He stood up and walked over to my side.
In front of all the directors, he took my hand in his.
“She isn’t just ‘a woman.'”
“She is the person I want to marry most in this life.”
My head began to buzz.
Everyone in the room was watching.
Tang Shuyi leaned back against her chair and raised an eyebrow, clearly wearing an expression that said, “Finally, he’s talking like a human being.”
As Qi Tingshan was being led away, he kept his eyes fixed on me with a death glare.
But this time, I didn’t hide.
Because the person standing next to me was holding my hand very tightly.
So tightly, it felt as if he never intended to let go for the rest of his life.
