Chapter 13: A Woman Can Be Won Over in Bed!
What does the boss’s wife want? Zhang Cheng’s heart sank, but he answered at once.
“Driver Zhang, this is Lin Wanshu. Come to my office.”
“Yes, madam. I’ll be right there.”
Her top-floor office was even grander than Zhou Mingyuan’s. Beyond the floor-to-ceiling windows, traffic filled the city. Inside, the understated luxury included a thick gray carpet, abstract paintings and glossy plants. Lin sat behind a broad ebony desk in a tailored white suit, her hair in a neat bun. Sunlight through the blinds fell across her shoulders. When she looked up, her beauty made him reluctant to meet her eyes.
“Sit.” She indicated a leather chair.
Zhang perched awkwardly, palms damp and fingers gripping his trousers. He could look at Su Qing and even dream of intimacy with her, but he wouldn’t dare behave improperly before Lin. She was noble, beautiful, dignified and accomplished: a princess, a fairy from heaven. He was only a penniless driver, as ordinary as a roadside stone.
“How old are you, Driver Zhang?” Her voice softened with what sounded like genuine concern.
“Twenty-eight, madam.”
“Two years older than me. It’s time you thought about settling down.”
He flushed. He had no stable home; after rent and money sent back to his hometown, his wages barely supported him. How could he think about marriage?
“You’ve been with Mingyuan ten years,” she said warmly. “He’s been occupied building the business and may not have paid attention to your personal life. But I see what you’ve done for the company: ten years without an accident, loyal to him throughout.”
His eyes stung. In ten years, no one had counted his contributions or considered his grievances so carefully. Zhou never had. “Madam, I…” His throat closed.
“Su Qing has moved in with you?” Lin asked, her tone turning matter-of-fact.
“Yes.”
She smiled. “Then you should thank me.”
He was startled. Privately, he knew she was right. Without her raid on the hotel, he wouldn’t have slept with Su; without her pressure, Su wouldn’t have moved in, and he wouldn’t have enjoyed her tenderness last night. But as Zhou’s cover, he couldn’t admit it. “I don’t understand.”
“Don’t pretend. I knew Zhou Mingyuan was in the wardrobe that night. I deliberately made a commotion so he’d know and call you in to act. Then I stayed to make your performance real. Yesterday I made Su Qing move in with you.
“I’m keeping Zhou away from her, and helping you find a wife. She’s young, beautiful, clever and a graduate of a prestigious university. Under ordinary circumstances she would never consider a driver. Don’t misunderstand me; I admire you. But thanks to my planning, you have a chance now.”
Some chance, he thought. Su hadn’t even bothered answering his attempt to discuss a future together. Aloud he said, “We’re not pretending, madam. She’s really my girlfriend. I already seized my chance.”
“Keep denying it.” She rolled her eyes, and the unexpected charm of the gesture made his heart jump. He was astonished: she was even more captivating than Su Qing.
Lin leaned forward. “I sincerely hope you use this opportunity to settle down. Su Qing is a good girl who took a wrong turn. You were her first; you can help her change.”
Her kindness warmed him.
“I know you think you’re not good enough, and she hasn’t considered you. But a woman can be won over in bed. You’re young, strong and gifted. You can win her. The fact that she agreed to move in shows you already made a start.” A blush rose on Lin’s cheeks. “Do you understand what to do?”
Zhang didn’t know what to say. He half believed her, but he was afraid. He wasn’t a convincing playboy. If he slept with Su every night, Zhou would spot his lies, and he might betray himself seeing the two of them together. Zhou, worth ten billion yuan, would be furious. For a driver on six thousand a month to keep taking his woman was like pulling teeth from a tiger.
Seeing his fear, Lin said seriously, “Don’t worry. I’ll protect you. Zhou Mingyuan won’t dare touch a hair on your head.”
