Chapter 5
I gave birth to a son.
Over the past few months, terrified of being found by Fu Tingshen, I had been hiding in a small town in C-City.
My son was born in this town.
“He looks just like you, so handsome.” The young nurse standing by my bed held my son, smiling from ear to ear. “He’s the most beautiful baby I’ve ever seen.”
I craned my neck to look.
The baby was wrinkled and shriveled, hardly what I would call handsome.
But I had family now.
I started laughing and then began to cry, startling the young nurse so much that she quickly put the baby down to comfort me.
“You can’t cry now. If you don’t take care of yourself during the postpartum month, you’ll suffer later,” the nurse, whose name was Yang Ke’er, said. She had been with me ever since I was admitted to the hospital.
Seeing her flustered look, I couldn’t help but laugh.
She laughed along with me.
“Have you picked a name for him yet?” she asked.
I nodded. “Chu Weiyi.”
My one and only family.
Chu Weiyi grew quickly, and he grew more and more handsome.
But Yang Ke’er was wrong; he didn’t look like me.
He looked like Fu Tingshen.
Even small mannerisms, like the way he furrowed his brow, were identical to Fu Tingshen’s.
Yang Ke’er sat on the sofa with me, looking at Chu Weiyi playing with blocks on the other side. “Look at that little expression of his.”
I glanced at her, then back at Chu Weiyi, who was concentrating on stacking his blocks, and sighed deeply.
He really did look like him.
“Didn’t you say you had good news?” I withdrew my gaze and looked at her.
It was her day off, and she had come over early in the morning, claiming to have good news for me.
Only then did she pull herself away from Chu Weiyi’s good looks. “Didn’t you ask me to find a job for you last time?”
“You found one?”
“There are actually quite a few jobs that would suit you, but!” She winked at me. “My connections are vast, and I found a particularly suitable one for you.”
I laughed and gave her a gentle push. “Out with it.”
“Weiyi is two and a half and will be starting kindergarten soon. As it happens, Little Bee Kindergarten is looking for an accountant.”
My eyes lit up.
I had been worried that I wouldn’t be able to take care of Chu Weiyi if I started working.
This was indeed the most suitable job.
“Thank you, Ke’er.” I threw my arms around Yang Ke’er.
From now on, Chu Weiyi and I could live the life of ordinary people.
