Chapter 1
I was Fu Tingshen’s golden canary.
Because of my soft and pliant figure, I was kept in a manor in the suburbs by the man rumored to be uninterested in women, Fu Tingshen.
I had no parents, no family. I was selected from an orphanage by the Shanghai tycoon Fu Tingshen, who sponsored my university education.
I originally thought I would have a wonderful future, but I never expected that as soon as I graduated, Fu Tingshen would take me back to his manor.
Fine, fine.
Looking at the designer clothes and gourmet cuisine from all over the world, I suddenly understood that this future was indeed quite wonderful.
Just as I had decided to live a life of idle luxury in Fu Tingshen’s manor, a voice was suddenly implanted in my mind one day.
That voice told me that I was just the female cannon fodder in a CEO romance novel.
A golden canary, I could accept.
Cannon fodder, I could not.
“What are you thinking about?” Seeing that I was distracted, Fu Tingshen stopped his movements.
I was thinking about the cannon fodder business.
But I couldn’t tell him that, or he would think I was insane.
I blinked, my eyes glistening as I looked at him. “I’m not feeling well.”
Fu Tingshen always cared a great deal about the experience in this regard, so when he heard me say I was unwell, he rolled over to lie beside me.
“I’ll have Zhang Yi come and see you tomorrow.” His voice was a bit hoarse, not exactly gentle.
Zhang Yi was his private doctor.
Having been with him for so long, I would sometimes forget my own status.
Although I was solely after his money, he was handsome and treated me well, which inevitably made my heart flutter on occasion.
I lowered my eyes and answered obediently, “Okay.”
He liked me this way, as docile as a little white rabbit.
When his arm reached for me, I tilted my head slightly, allowing him to easily pull me into his embrace.
“Tingshen,” I said, looking at the sharp lines of his chest, “what will happen to me when you find someone you love?”
The voice in my head told me that Fu Tingshen was the male lead of this novel.
In one year, he would meet his destined female lead.
At that point, I would be a stain on his romantic journey, and my fate would be anything but pleasant.
“You’re crossing a line.”
His voice had returned to its usual tone, cold and impersonal.
I wasn’t surprised by this answer at all.
After rolling my eyes discreetly, I closed them and prepared to sleep.
The room fell silent, the only sound being the intertwined breathing of Fu Tingshen and me.
After an unknown amount of time, he suddenly spoke.
“I’m not interested in other women.”
