“Hello…” Gu Xiaoai wanted to say more, but Chu Shixiu had already hung up.
She stared blankly at the phone for a long time…
It was so rare for her to hear his voice, and yet it ended just like that.
If he knew it was her, Gu Xiaoai, on the other end of the line, would he have hung up so quickly?
But at least, now that Chu Shixiu knew it was Li Juefeng who had set her up, he would surely find a way to navigate through this mess…
Fixing her gaze on the phone screen, Gu Xiaoai silently memorized the number.
It was the number for Chu Shixiu’s office…
When she turned around, housekeeper Tong was looking at her with a puzzled expression. “Miss Gu?”
Gu Xiaoai suddenly recalled how she had dashed to the phone earlier. Worried that housekeeper Tong might report this to Li Juefeng, she quickly explained, “I just feel so cut off from the outside world in this villa.”
“…” Housekeeper Tong looked conflicted. “Miss Gu, Mr. Li has allowed you to go out for a walk.”
Allowed to go out for a walk?
With handcuffs? And a monitoring housekeeper trailing her?
What if she ran into someone she knew? That would be a disaster.
“Forget it. I’ll just watch a movie.”
The third floor of the Li Family villa was entirely dedicated to entertainment and leisure. Gu Xiaoai sat on a luxurious sofa in the Cinema Room, while housekeeper Tong stood nearby, ostensibly to serve her but clearly there to keep an eye on her.
Every time Gu Xiaoai asked housekeeper Tong to go handle something, the housekeeper would cuff the other end of her handcuffs to a nearby fixture, as if terrified she might escape.
After this happened a few times, Gu Xiaoai couldn’t help but comment as she watched housekeeper Tong bustling about, “I’m not going to run away.”
The Li Family villa was crawling with servants, doormen, and bodyguards-dozens of them. Even if she wanted to escape, she wouldn’t stand a chance…
“I’m not worried about you running away. I’m worried you’ll jump out of a window.” With that, housekeeper Tong gestured toward the massive movie screen. “Miss Gu, keep watching. I’ll go get some fruit for you.”
“…”
Worried she’d jump out of a window?
So they were afraid she might lose all hope…
Gu Xiaoai curled up on the sofa, munching on the potato chips in her hand. Her bag… Li Juefeng still hadn’t returned it to her.
It had been nearly four days now. She had no way to contact the outside world. Who knew how worried her uncle must be by now?
If this imprisonment continued, she wouldn’t need drugs to drive her insane-she’d lose her mind all on her own.
“So annoying.”
Frustrated, Gu Xiaoai bit into her potato chips with a loud crunch.
