- Chapter 137 - I Am His... Girlfriend 1
When she finally got out of bed, the sky outside had already dimmed into the twilight of the next day. Li Juefeng had left for work and had yet to return. His stamina was, as always, astonishingly relentless.
As if to remind her not to even think about another hunger strike, the metal box containing the drugs was placed dead center on the long European-style dining table.
A silent warning.
More effective than any words could ever be.
Gu Xiaoai stared at it, utterly speechless.
When housekeeper Tong brought out a spread of exquisite dishes and set them on the table, Gu Xiaoai found them all tasteless, like chewing wax.
The other end of the handcuffs was secured to the corner of the table, the diamonds on the chain glinting under the light.
She barely managed to swallow a few bites before picking up a nearby newspaper to flip through. Whether it was the financial section or the entertainment headlines, the stories about Chu’s assistant’s suicide and the tax evasion scandal dominated the front pages.
“Miss Gu, Mr. Li instructed me to let you know that if you’re feeling bored, you can go out for a walk. I’ll accompany you,” housekeeper Tong said dutifully, standing nearby.
Gu Xiaoai shook the chain attached to her wrist. “What, so you can take me out on a leash?”
Did they really think she was some kind of pet?
“…That’s not what Mr. Li meant,” housekeeper Tong said, trying her best to defend him.
“Then what did he mean? That he doesn’t actually want me to go out at all?”
“…” Forget it. Housekeeper Tong decided it wasn’t worth the effort. Li Juefeng’s image as a tyrant was already firmly cemented in Gu Xiaoai’s mind. No amount of explanation from her could possibly change that.
Gu Xiaoai’s attention returned to the newspaper. Every single one seemed to be singing the same tune, all attacking Chu’s Company’s reputation. Some articles went even further, directly targeting Chu Shixiu himself.
They called him a “kept man,” accusing him of cozying up to Mayor Liang’s daughter to advance Chu’s Company’s interests.
One venomous word after another.
For the first time, Gu Xiaoai felt a deep disgust for the paparazzi. Did they really have to drag someone down to such depths just to sell a story?
With Chu Shixiu’s talent and intelligence, why would he ever need to rely on a woman?
“Ring… ring…”
The phone in the Main Hall began to ring, and a maid quickly picked it up.
Not wanting to read another word of the slander against Chu Shixiu, Gu Xiaoai crumpled the newspaper into a ball and tossed it aside. “I’m going back to my room to rest. Unlock the handcuffs.”
“Of course. I’ll accompany you.”
Housekeeper Tong now stuck to her like glue, as if terrified she might do something drastic at any moment.
Honestly, it was completely unnecessary.
If Li Juefeng really wanted to keep her in line, all he had to do was place a metal box in every corner of the Li Family villa. She’d behave, no question about it.
