Chapter 4
After picking up my son from school, he told me that his grandfather had called him, saying he missed him and asked if he could stay at his grandfather’s house for a week.
He wanted me to take him there.
I was a bit taken aback, but I took my son home to pack a small suitcase. He was thrilled, saying his grandfather had promised to play drones with him.
I dropped my son off.
My mom accompanied me outside: “Jane, cheer up, go out and take a walk.”
As I got into the car, my mom stood there watching me, not going back inside for a long time.
I opened the car mirror, looking at my pale face and downcast expression.
I picked up my makeup and touched up, applying a bright lipstick.
I went back to pack my things.
I traveled for a week, hurriedly seeing many people and landscapes, listening to many stories along the way.
I returned feeling much more refreshed.
I looked at the calendar, 21 days left until the divorce countdown.
